Chapter Thirteen The gathered guests sat on folding chairs making an aisle to a slightly raised platform at the far end of the living room. On it stood Father Andrew an open Bible in his hands. Angel looked for her mother and was surprised to see that Warden Pigeon’s daughter was sitting next to her, the warden on the other side. Her mother was weeping quietly and dabbing at the tears with a tiny handkerchief. Dressed in matching black suits the Judge and his son stood before the priest and turned to watch their brides come down the aisle. The ceremony was brief. Only the girls were required to repeat the part about love, honor, and obey. At the moment of the obligatory kiss, Faith kept her lips clamped tight and quickly turned away.
