Chapter Seven When Mary arrived home she went immediately to her bedroom and fell to her knees beside the bed sobbing and asking for forgiveness and thanking God over and over for giving her the strength to avoid that downward spiral which was certain to lead her to Hell. She quickly showered, hid her dress and shoes, slipped into sweats and an oversized tee, pulled on her sneakers and started preparing supper for the girls. She didn’t feel as if a heavy weight had been lifted from her, but rather as if freed from some horrible black thing like an alien creature or a succubus from Biblical times, an invasive cancerous thing that spread its tentacles into every part of her body.
