The first thing I noticed when I looked to my right was my comm link and watch. My heart thudded. Did I really make it? Did we really— “Gareth,” I breathed out. When I looked down at myself, I was wearing the tattered and dirty clothes that I had been in when the school was collapsing. Dust and dirt were still on my hair and clothes, and I noticed the scratches on my skin from all the flying debris. I stood up in a hurry, and felt a sudden ache in my left leg. But I ran down the stairs, past by my parents and Martin, and just kept running. If I was still injured, then it could only mean that Gareth sustained his injuries too. He was probably at home, in his bed, still bleeding out. As I ran, out into the street, I didn’t have time to stop and admire how it was now lined with more trees
