Chapter 8

Chapter 8 Remus I couldn't lie to myself that what Slyvia said hurt me a whole lot. The bite and sting in her voice hurt me a lot but the last thing I would do was to see how much she hurt me. I would rather eat sand than allow her to see that she actually got to me. ''b***h!'' I hissed. Her disgusting attitude and behavior was going to get her into trouble one day and I would be there to watch her downfall and also laugh at her. I made my way back to my room. There were many things I needed to do and the earlier I got on with it, the better for me. I didn't have time to worry about someone like her when there were other things I could worry about. Slyvia was of no importance to me and in that moment, I knew I needed to put her in her place. That was the best thing I could do to someone like her. ''So… how did it go?'' a voice said. I didn't need to look back to know that it was Bret who spoke. He was very inquisitive as well as nosey and would always want to know everything that was going on around me. ''She's a b***h and I'm never going to attempt to talk to her ever again. We can be cool outside but when we get out, we turn to enemies. I think that's for the best.'' I snapped. I wanted to see how much Slyvia disgusted me. Even before I got married to her, I did a background search on her and I discovered that most men usually fawned over her, all wanting to be in her good graces. I didn't care about any of that but one thing I did care about was why men were always eager to please her. I didn't understand it. Did she use a charm on them or what? ''I see… Well, you both shouldn't kill yourselves.'' Bret said. I could tell that he was disappointed about the turn of events but I just didn't care. Things could go anyhow they liked, that wasn't my business. ''Easy for you to say.'' I murmured. ''I'm going to head out now for some errands. Do you want anything?'' he asked. I was glad he wanted to get me something but he of all people knew that we basically had everything in the pantry. I could easily go up there and get anything I wanted because we usually have everything. ''Oh right! I forgot, you have everything.'' he chuckled. I managed a smile, at least for his sake. The guy was trying really hard to make us stay together but still, it wasn't working because both of us were too stubborn for our own good. ''Yeah, we do.'' I said. Just before he left, he stood for a moment as he thought about something. I tried poking into his mind to see what I could find but everything came out blank. He wasn't giving into the poking and the only thing I could do was to wait for him to tell me what he was thinking of. ''That stuff you told me the other time.'' he said. I looked at him, completely blank as my mind went back to our earlier discussion. I could come up with nothing at all. Everything was a blur to me and he was the only person who could actually tell me what he was thinking of. ''I mean… what you told me about me going to Slyvia's room. Who told you that because i know you couldn't possibly have known that without someone telling you.'' Bret said. Now, I understood what he was saying. I actually underestimated Bret's intelligence and most times when he told me of some things I usually overlooked, it blew my mind straight off the hinges. ''Yes, someone did tell me.'' I said. He smirked, looking straight through my eyes. I could feel his aura trying to pry into my mind to find out the truth but I wasn't having it. The same way he had blocked me was the same way I would block him too. Tit for tat. ''The answer isn't far right?'' he asked. ''Danielle… She's the one who told me. Actually, she came into my room to tell me.'' I said. There was no surprised look in his eyes which only meant that he was expecting this. The look in his eyes was one of realization to what he had earlier thought about and it surprised me to say the least. ''You're not surprised?'' I asked. ''No, I'm not. I kind of expected it.'' he said. I didn't need to pry further to know that he didn't like Danielle one bit. It was written all over his face and his mannerism. Actually, I didn't see anyone who would like her because of her behavior. She was saucy and disrespectful to even the oldest staff in the house which was something that didn't quite sit well with me. ''I guess she's no one's favorite right?'' I said. ''Definitely not,'' he said. I scoffed, content to look through the corridor windows at the different workers I had, going about their daily business. ''You should be careful around her though.'' he said. I looked at him not because of the message but because of the mannerism in which he said it. It sounded like a warning and also a plea which was something Bret had never done before. It was all so surprising because I never thought he would do something like this. ''Danielle?'' I asked, wanting to be sure. ''Yes. She doesn't have a good intention and the earlier we know this, the better for us.'' he said. I thought about what he said for a while and I realized he was right. Danielle had given me enough reasons not to trust her at all. She was a liar, a backbiter and so very rude. ''Thank you.'' I said. He morphed into his wolf form right there and then, moving towards the back exit of the mansion. ''What? You're just going to go in your wolf form?'' I called out. All he did was nudge his head towards the door before taking a giant leap out of the window and towards the late night air. ''Dramatic much.'' I chuckled. Now that my evening was successfully ruined, I didn't know what to do anymore. As I walked aimlessly round the mansion, my mind went on the many things I would be doing now that I was king. I knew it wasn't going to be easy but this was something I had signed up for and I couldn't let my father and the entire pack down. Everyone was counting on me to take the pack to greatness. As I walked round the mansion, the only noise that could be heard was the neighs of horses in the stable. They were agitated and I realized that they were probably eating or the servants were taking them for a walk. ''Dad… let me go see if he would talk.'' I murmured. He was the only person I could talk to at that moment but what I didn't know was whether he would recognize me. His illness had made it so difficult to actually recognize people. As it stood, his eyes were very dim and even when he managed to speak, it was incoherent most of the time. I morphed into my wolf form, taking off at a sprint. My father's chambers were at the other end of the mansion and in order to save myself some walking, running there at top speed was much better. ''Slow down.'' I said to my wolf. He wasn't having it though as he continued running in top speed over small puddles of water and a small bush. Soon, we got to my father's chambers and I had to force him back in before morphing back into my human form. ''You'll stay there till i need you again.'' I said. It was as if every time I gave him power, he always wanted to misuse it. This time around, i wasn't having any of it. I walked into my father's chambers and the fresh air around the area never ceased to amaze me. ''Greetings Sire, welcome.'' a voice said. I looked towards the direction of the voice and I realized it was one of the many helps who assisted my father in living healthily. She had basically been with him since the beginning of his illness and I couldn't thank her enough for staying and sticking with him all through. ''Martha… how are you?'' I smiled. I was genuinely happy to see her. She was like a mother to me, always giving me the best advice a mother could give to her child. I loved everything about her and I knew that if she wasn't here, my father would be long dead. ''Can't complain. I'm okay.'' she smiled. She hugged me and for a moment, I didn't want to pull out of the hug. It was the best thing that had ever happened to me. I pulled away reluctantly to avoid being awkward. ''Father? How is his health?'' Martha sighed and that was the only thing that made me realize that it still hadn't improved. It was the same old thing, same old story. Sometimes, I wondered if it ever ended. Did it actually ever end? ''I can say he's actually improving. He was so much worse last week but this week has been somewhat good. Even the doctor testified to it.'' she smiled. That was good news, even better than I expected and I was so very glad to hear that. It was better than the everyday bad news I was so used to hearing. This was like a breath of fresh air to me and I loved every bit of it. ''Can i go see him?'' I asked. ''Yes… yes of course, he's been wanting to see you.'' she said. ''Oh really? Why didn't you put a word across. You know i could have been here instantly.'' I said. ''You know, with the wedding preparations, I thought you'd be too busy to attend anything else. I'm sorry.'' she said shyly. ''I will never be too busy for my father. He birthed me, gave me life. Its okay though, you know i can never stay mad at you.'' I smiled. I got to my father's room soon and I was quite happy to see that he was somewhat better than I expected. ''I'll leave you two alone. Just mindlink me if you need anything.'' she smiled before walking out of the room. Now, it was time to talk to my father and somehow, I didn't know what to expect.
