Chapter 9

Chapter 9 Slyvia Soon, I was ready for bed but still, I couldn't get Remus' words out of my head. It was getting annoying, having to think about what he said the whole time. ''Get him off your head Slyvia.'' I snapped. My wolf was restless but there was nothing actually I could do about it other than to calm down. That was the only thing I could do but it was easier said than done. I thought about other things, wanting to get my mind off of the main thing that was troubling me. That wasn't working and so, I decided to look through my phone to see what I could find in the gossip section. Nothing much was going on well except for the major coverage of my wedding to my billionaire husband. The photographer or whoever was behind the shots really did a good job in capturing the most important details of the wedding. It was all a buzz, something that would be remembered as a fun and special day for everyone else except me. I had to be the only person who wasn't feeling the energy at all. ''All for nothing.'' I hissed. I really didn't see any need for this wedding when the both of us couldn't stand each other at all. Yes, we were betrothed but that didn't mean I would fall for him just because he was now my husband. If people were really thinking that was what I would do, they had another thing coming. I was stubborn in my own right and the earlier they realized it, the better for them. Bored out of my mind, I switched off my phone, simply content to stare at the ceiling. Since there was nothing to do, I might as well stare at nothing until sleep took me away finally. That sounded like the best idea and so, i did that but after about thirty minutes, i was bored out of my mind. I groaned, rising up from the bed. Now what? I walked around my room, thinking about nothing and everything at the same time. It was just a mindless spasm of nothingness that didn't seem to improve no matter how much I tried to encourage myself. ''Just go for a walk then.'' my wolf sighed. ''Oh s**t! Why didn't i think of that ever since?'' I groaned, hitting my head on the wall. I shrugged on my jacket before stepping outside. Even as a wolf, the weather was still very cold for us at times and so, we had to keep warm on the days the cold was unbearable. ''Now, let's take a look at the mansion grounds.'' I smiled. I walked out of my room, shutting the door silently. Since it was almost midnight, everywhere was darn quiet. The staff of the mansion had all retired for the night and the only people roaming about were the night security guards, some of whom greeted me. ''Greetings Luna, is everything alright?'' It was the head security and I had no doubt that one of his men would report me to him. They were probably wondering why Luna was patrolling the grounds at such an odd hour when she should be resting or better still, with her husband, enjoying their wedding night. ''Yes, everything is alright.'' I smiled. I had to make it believable or else Remus would get a report about it. I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't already gotten word about it. Nothing went past him and if he discovered that for any reason, something was kept away from him, he would have all of their heads. That was just who Remus was. He was scary and so very intimidating and at times, all i wanted to do was to run away from him and everything remotely associated with him. ''Okay ma'am. Please if you need anything at all, do not hesitate to reach out to us. Have a good evening.'' he smiled before walking away. I breathed a sigh of relief as I watched him walk away. There were many things I didn't want him to know about and I was quite glad that I was able to handle the situation without making myself look like a fool. I walked further towards the library where I knew I might get something to do. It was all so very funny that I knew major places within the mansion but not very well. Call it odd or what if but that was the situation I found myself in. I got to the library soon and I was quite glad that there was no one else in it. Not that I was expecting anyone to be there seeing that it was late but at times, one can't be too sure especially on some things. ''Now, let's see what Remus and his pack reads.'' I murmured, walking towards a shelf of old books. I picked one up and immediately, the title caught my attention. It was about old magic of kings, queens and demons and somehow, I had a feeling that I ought to read that book. I didn't know what drew me in but soon, I found myself reading the book. The more I read, the more I realized that this story wasn't a work of fiction like I had thought. It really happened and what's worse, it happened right here in this mansion. I shivered as I read more and more. The ending brought me to the final showdown and I realized with horror what really happened to the last Luna, Remus' mother. ''This is so not good.'' Remus ''Father, its me.'' I smiled. He was reclined on his specially made bed, looking at nothing in particular. Everything to him in that moment was all so strange. The only reply I got was him grunting something incomprehensible. It broke my heart seeing him like this. His once white full hair was a shadow of its former self and all that remained was a shaft of the white hair which had all of its tufts gone. It was a sorry sight but there was really nothing anyone could do about it. ''I'm sorry for not coming to check up on you ever since. I've been so very busy running the affairs of the pack that i'd little to no time for myself.'' I gripped his frail hands, giving it a gentle squeeze. His whole body was very fragile, like you could actually break it into two. ''I know.'' I looked up, wondering what I had just heard. It couldn't be right? It wouldn't be my father who had just spoken. I looked around, trying to see if there was any other person in the room with us but we were alone. There was nobody which just left me all the more confused. ''Father… did you speak?'' I asked, scared about the answer. Like an old turtle, just managing to react, my father looked at me. I didn't know whether to smile or cry. This was the first breakthrough we ever had since his illness began. This was miraculous. I didn't even know what to say as I simply looked at him. ''Yes son, I did. Son, I see all you do and I want you to know that I'm very proud of you. You've given me so much to hope for and I'm very proud to be your father.'' he smiled. I fell at his feet, holding his hands more tightly, never letting go. This was too much for me to believe. It was happening but still, I found it hard to believe. ''Father, i really don't know what to say.'' ''It's okay son, you don't have to say anything. Martha knows about this too but i want you to keep it to yourself, not another soul must hear about this.'' he said. ''Yes father.'' I smiled. ''So, I hear you got married to Slyvia today. I'm proud of you for that, i want you to treat her right.'' he said. At that, I remained silent as I thought about what he had just said. I was doing the opposite of what he said and I felt bad about it. If my father knew what I was doing, he would be mad at me. ''Yes father.'' I smiled. ''Good. Bring me my glass of water over there.'' he said, pointing at a table. I walked towards it, bringing it over to him. He took a little sip before handing it back to me. I was just so happy we had a normal conversation. ''Son, I want you to promise me something,'' he said. I looked at my father more intently and I knew what he was about to say was important. The look in his eye said a lot. ''Yes father.'' I said. ''I want you to promise me that despite anything that happens, you will love your Luna. You will hold her close.'' he said. Was this man a mind seer or what? How much did he know for him to talk about me and Slyvia that way. I was so very confused as I stared at him. I had to give him an answer or else, he would know something was up. ''I promise.'' I said finally. I didn't know how I was going to manage that but I knew I couldn't let my father down. For his sake, I would try.
