For a moment I thought that Asher was going to say something else, but he refused to speak.
“Asher? What did Lord Alpheus do to you?” I asked, and Asher grunted after he sighed.
“He took everything from me, Darius. I thought he was never going to ask for payment, but he asked me to pay every dime I owed him. Lord Alpheus took everything from me, Darius.” Asher’s voice was laced with so much pain, and I felt a sudden rush of guilt creeping into my body.
