Chapter 8
“Poor Tucker!” Penny exclaimed.
“Then what happened?” Paul asked.
“Well, I’m not sure,” Olivia admitted. “Tucker doesn’t say much about the time between the fire and the day he came here. Some of the other stuff, he’s told me again and again—how he fell in love with Chad and with Roy. He says remembering them and his dad after graduation day is mostly just sad. He prefers to remember things the way they were before then. And he never talks about Daisy. I know he met her in the circus, but he never told me how they both ended up here. Whatever happened after Chad left for New York, and Roy went into the army—whatever happened at home—it broke Tucker’s spirits. Something happened too, quite obviously, that broke his body.”
While Tucker made his way across the natural landscape
