“See,” Chad said. “This place is so different.” On the bus ride home, once again, Chad and Tucker were separated. Tucker was a little bummed. “You disappeared on me in Macy’s,” Savannah complained. “I didn’t know you and Chad were so tight.” “We were just goofin,’” Tucker said. “You coulda joined us, dig.” He was glad, of course, that she hadn’t. “Just goofin’? You sure? What kind of goofin’?” she teased. Tucker gave her a rather peeved expression as a response. She took the hint, and changed the subject. Tucker felt protective of Chad. If they were too obvious, and word got back to Chad’s mother, it would make things worse for him at home. Chad took Tucker aside when they returned to the school.
