"Give me the camera Hilton." Jace mumbled in the back of the classroom. The look on his face told the other students that he wasn't in the mood to play.
Maya simply ignored the question and focused on the math lesson that was being taught. She didn't give Jace a reaction when he continued to nudge her shoulder, and she mentally laughed when he reached for her gym bag.
"I'm not kidding." He growled when she slapped his hand out of the way. "That counts as child p*********y you know."
Maya smirked. "You're eighteen Jace. Maybe you'll think twice about wearing your scooby-doo boxers to school next time."
"Just give me the camera." Jace pleaded
The camera in question currently held a picture of Jace Montgomery in nothing but his favorite scooby-doo boxers.
It had been a long running battle between Jace and Maya and the pranks were starting to get out of hand. Maya had already decided to use the picture as the background for the quint’s eighteenth birthday party invitation.
"I won't show anyone the picture." She lied with a straight face.
Jace sent her a skeptical look. They were teammates, they weren't supposed to be fighting all of the time.
"Fine." Jace said with a nod. "Keep the picture. Just know, the gloves are off."
Maya laughed. She had definitely been winning the little prank war they had going on. She'd keyed his car, put laxatives in his gatorade, and stole his phone and told every girl in his f*******: contacts that he was in love with them. Including Quinn.
Jace had responded by telling the school that she'd asked him out and stealing her clothes out of her locker.
"Bring it on Montgomery." She whispered as she turned her attention back to her school work. Suddenly her phone lit up with a message.
Harper- Emergency. Casey, I need you at lunch!!
Maya rolled her eyes. They had created a group chat so that they could all communicate together. However, none of the quints ever really needed Maya. She always managed to insert herself into the conversation.
Maya- Y do you need Casey?
Casey- I'm there!!
Harper- She fixes things. I'm in a relationship nightmare!!
Maya chuckled to herself. It seemed like Harper was always in some type of relationship situation.
"Who are you chuckling at?" Jace asked with a raised eyebrow.
Maya quickly slid her phone back into her pocket. This was the only class she had to deal with Jace in. And she was almost through it.
Seven more minutes...
"None of your business." She replied, flipping her hair over her shoulders.
Jace narrowed his eyes. "Got a little crush I don't know about, Hilton?" he asked, smiling to himself.
Maya rolled her eyes. "I got a lot of things you don't know about." She said with a wink.
It was no secret that Jace had a thing for her. She didn't really think much of it since it seemed he had a thing for anything in a skirt, but she did like using it against him. She watched in amusement as his smile slowly transformed into a scowl.
Jace wasn't stupid. He knew she knew about his feelings, he didn't care whether or not she knew. "Don't tempt me." He mumbled, focusing his attention back on his work.
She made a big deal of pulling her phone out of her pocket when it vibrated with another text message. Assuming it was her sister she quickly opened the message.
I'll love you forever.
She nearly dropped the phone. She had been receiving these random text messages for a little under six months and at first they seemed harmless. It wasn't until the person texting started to have personal information about her, that it became a problem. She had even changed her number and somehow they still had it.
With a shaky hand, she quickly turned her phone off and placed it back into her pockets.
"Bad news?" Jace asked not making eye contact with her. She ignored the question. Nobody knew about the texts except for her sisters. They had debated telling their parents but decided they didn't need to...yet.
"Mind your business, Montgomery."She whispered, quietly packing her things back into her backpack. The teacher always made a big deal when they packed up before the bell rang.
Jace chuckled to himself as he thought about what the message might have said. "That's that attitude of yours. You're not winning any hearts carrying around that." He joked.
Maya clenched her fist. "Shut up Jace, or that picture will be all around the school within a minute." She threatened. She didn't like to admit it, but the messages unnerved her. She wasn't used to feeling vulnerable.
"I don't know..." Jace continued twirling his pencil around his fingers, "It might be worth it. This seems to be affecting you. What did your little crush say?" and though his voice was humorous, his eyes were serious.
She was saved by the bell.
She quickly scrambled out of her seat and headed towards the exit. She ignored Jace's shouts as she quickly made her way to the cafeteria. She decided that she didn't want to give Jace the chance to get on her nerves so she headed towards Harper as soon as she spotted her.
"Soo..." She said throwing her backpack on top of the table. "How is your boyfriend?"
Harper held a hand up to her sister's face. "Don't start with me. I'm freaking out here, you know. Josh is going to break up with me."
Deciding she'd wait to tell her sisters about the text, she shrugged her shoulders. "I mean is it really the worst thing if he breaks up with you?" She asked with a smirk.
Harper sent her a glare. "Yes. That is literally the worst thing I can think of. Notice I didn't say I needed you in the text."
"I'm here for support." She mumbled as Casey and Ellie joined them at the table.
"Alright." Kacey said in a serious voice. "What's the problem?"
Maya watched in boredom as Harper explained how Josh was going to find out she went to Subway with Hayes, and how he was going to break up with her and humiliate her in front of the whole school. And by the time she was done explaining, Maya was in a worse mood than she was before.
"So?" Harper asked, sending Casey a pleading look. "How do I fix this?"
"Well." Casey placed a finger on her chin. "I think I might be able to help."
