“doesn't matter, does It?". She didn't wait for a reply “so, where have you been?". She asked again, this time getting up.
“i don't have to answer to you!".
“Yes you do baby".she replied, cat walking towards him. “we're engaged!". She added.
“for the hundredth time, we aren't!". He answered through gritted teeth.
“ you must have forgotten after that huge accident. We are...look", she wiggled her fingers in his face. A diamond ring was placed on her finger.
“definitely not me". Just then Wes walked in.
“What the....how'd you..?". He pointed at Jolene. “shutup you".she said in form of a warning.
“Jolene, get the f**k outta here!".Wes said. He walked over to her and pulled her. She struggled to break loose but he wouldn't bulge as he flung her out the door. She slid to the floor, spraining her ankle.
She groaned in pain as she forced her body up. She held her sprained ankle, then pulled the hands away as blood covered the palm. She gritted her teeth. “Your dad must hear of this". She fumed, as she limped. “and am still not going anywhere. Am around". She said before limping her way to the gate and exiting.
“The f**k". Austin breathed, and slumped on the couch.
“she is for sure gonna be trouble". Wes said.
Austin leaned back against the chair. Wes was right. He stood up and went to his room.
The afternoon was hot yet someone was outside, sitting down, looking all angry and depressed. Cathy had sent Dylan pick up Ariel. She wanted them to be closer than ever. In the morning, Ariel had asked about Austin and when she told him he left, she began to cry. She had promised to take her to his house when she came back from school. Ariel had jumped about happily and was very excited. Cathy sighed as she handed a book to a costumer. A school girl walked in, grinning widely. She looked familiar, probably a regular costumer.
”Good afternoon miss". She greeted ever so cheerfully. Her friend was besides her, but her face didn't seem familiar to Cathy.
“Good afternoon dear. How may I help you?".
“Uhm, I want to return this book". She dropped the book on the table in front of Cathy.
”Fifty shades of grey". Cathy read out loud. She had heard of this book, it talked about b**m stuff. “should a student be reading this? ". Cathy asked. How did this girl even take the book in the first place?
“Well, I heard about the book so..". The girl trailed as her cheeks flushed.
”mm!". Cathy didn't say anything again. These days, children are turning to something else, reading something past their age.
”What about your parents? Did they see this?". Cathy asked. She wanted to know if the fault came from the parents.
“well, I live with my dad and he is not usually around, so I kill boredom by reading stuffs like this". Her face flushed as she admitted.
Suddenly, Cathy thought of Ariel. He looked like a very busy person. If Ariel was staying with him, was this how she would be brought up? Reading overrated novels and watching overrated movies? She couldn't help but shiver at the thought. Meanwhile, the two girls were looking at her strangely. She looked like someone who should be in college or about to finish. What's she doing working here? What made it even surprising was when a little girl ran up to her saying ‘Mummy! mummy'.
Their mouth involuntarily opened as they shared at her. She carried the girl affectionately.
“How was your day sweetie?". She asked. ”Mummy it was good". Ariel replied. She turned to the two girls and greeted them sweetly. They couldn't help but be charmed by her cuteness.
Then the lady shot someone a look, and that's when they noticed someone was slightly behind them all these while. They tried to see his face, but the sun reflected on him, so he looked like a manly Greek god that just descended.
He stepped forward, standing besides one of the girls. Cathy gave him a look, asking him why he brought Ariel here.
“She insisted I bring her here". He replied innocently. He noticed Cathy was looking besides him, so he turned and that's when he noticed the two girls. “hi". He waved at them. They were shamelessly gawking at him. They finally snapped back when they heard him say hi.
"Ye-yeah h--hi". One stuttered, while the other was still speechless.
“uhm, you can leave now. Do you need another book, if no then you can please leave now". Cathy said to both of them .The one who hadn't been talking nodded and pulled her friend out . Cathy finally returned to her daughter who was still in her arms.
,“baby, why didn't you want to stay with your friend?". She asked, hoping she had another reason.
“You promised...". Ah, Cathy knew what she wanted to say. “ that you would take me to see uncle Austin. Can we go now?". Ariel looked at her with pleading eyes.
“ mommy is really busy right now. Just stay with Uncle Dylan, okay?".
“no". Ariel pouted “ you promised already". Seems her daughter was ready to throw a tantrum.
She signalled Dylan and he pulled her away. The little girl began to cry. She waved her dismissively. This was best for her daughter. Dylan took Ariel back to the apartment. She was still trying and wailing and all efforts to calm her down seemed futile. Fine, change of techniques.
”Ariel baby, what did you say you want again? ". She actually reduced her sob to hear him out.
“I want to go and see uncle Austin!". She pouted.
”okay, since you can't go see him, I'll call him". He said, pulling out his phone.
“Really?". She beamed, and he nodded.
He made a fake call and ended with ’okay'. “Is he coming?". She asked, with big round eyes. She has been smiling at him ever since he started the call.
“mm! He said you should do as mummy says". He replied and she pouted.
”i...Want....To.....See....Him". She said between sobs.
Dylan groaned. He didn't know what to do now! He patted her, made faces, bought candy and even wanted to take her to the park, but she refused. She crawled to a corner and folded herself
”why do you want to see him?". Dylan asked. There was no response and the girl just gaped at him with teary eyes as if he asked the hardest question in the world.
”What if he doesn't want to see you?". He asked, but that only worsened it, as she cried even louder, rolling around.
Dylan couldn't handle the situation anymore so he called Cathy. He explained everything to her and she handed duties to scarlet. She was glad the owner of the library agreed for scarlet to join her.
She entered the house and looked at Dylan who pointed where Ariel curled herself. She went there and pulled her from under the chair.
“baby, whats wrong huh?". She asked, even though she knew. She just don't want to believe this AT ALL!
