APRIL 1945
Mother resumed full control and command the next morning by appearing extra strict and advising Paula and myself that she had enjoyed a really good night"s sleep and was feeling on top of the world. Looking at her she appeared less than that; her hair was straggly and her face somewhat gaunt but I did detect a brightness of eye. Over the next three weeks and into April though she did seem to approach something like her old self and, mercifully there were no air raids and certainly no explosions. The news on the wireless was consistently optimistic even when it was not good because the German"s many counter attacks, as they fought to halt the Allied onslaught, were fierce and sometimes very effective.
