Preston is Twenty
Preston was in Faerie. Julian nudged me, “Let’s get this mission wrapped up for Uncle Aiden so we are back in time for the joint party Aunt Lucinda, mom, and Lexi are throwing.” I agreed, “That does sound like the best idea. I was thinking we should take our time.” Bernard chuckled in my head.
William teased, “Such sarcasm, big brother.” I rolled my eyes, “I’m barely older than you two.” Julian snorted, “Yes, but you enjoy calling us little brothers so much.” I did because they would roll their eyes just like I had.
We popped to Uncle Aiden’s office. Our Uncle grinned, “Boys, you are early.” I replied, “We can hardly miss the big joint party being thrown for a special Faerie event.” Uncle Aiden smirked, “It happens every year.” I winked, “Yes, but it’s such fun. Magic is usually released and mom loves it.”
Uncle Aiden’s eyes misted over. I knew that it meant the world to him that mom was involved with anything in Faerie after what had happened to her. Bernard growled, “I still want to kill them all.” I reasoned, “They didn’t all do it. We made sure we caught anyone who slipped through the cracks.”
Uncle Aiden put three files down and slid them over to us. I opened mine and laughed, “A party before the party?” Uncle Aiden grinned, “What better way to get in a celebratory mood?” William chuckled, "Especially since you are sending us to cause this party to go into chaos.”
I added, “Plus, see if we can get sources.” Uncle Aiden agreed, “That’s all true. Very perceptive, boys.” Unlike Hackura files, Faerie had context clues to what you were doing. It was a puzzle to solve, and you couldn’t leave until it was figured out.
I asked, “Who is going to this party that upset you?” Uncle Aiden merely chuckled. Then I checked the guest list. I grinned, “A few members of the Supernatural Council are going.” Uncle Aiden nodded, ‘Yes, they keep our representatives out of more meetings than any other Supernatural. I find it upset me.”
Julian clapped, “I’ve been working on a charm that will have a punch splash into someone's face.” I laughed, “We can tie it to the ladle they use to pour the drinks as well.” William said, “All the vodka can be water since there is an open bar as well.”
Uncle Aiden grinned, “Have fun with your chaos. They might be having some plumbing issues while you’re there.” I laughed, “Why would they give you invites but not for our Supernatural Council representatives?”
Uncle Aiden shrugged, “Your dad was invited with his Beta and Gamma.” Technically dad has three Beta’s but the invitation would’ve gone to Caleb. Julian rubbed his hands together, “So, they are not expecting us at all.”
Uncle Aiden smirked, “No, they are not.” I realized, “Dad didn’t offer for us to go in his place, did he?” Uncle Aiden grinned, “The invitation to him was sent to me.” William chuckled, “Why?” I admitted, “That does seem quite short sighted.”
Uncle Aiden shrugged, “They want to know if I’m ready to kill them, I suppose.” I laughed, “So, we are your warning shot." Uncle Aiden replied, “I’ve already made those. You are my move to warn them to shape up or your father will finally receive this invitation. We all know that if your father went to something where they would, they’d piss him off and die.”
Bernard growled, “They want Snow.” Yeah, they desperately wanted my little sister to work for them. I asked, “Are they still asking about Angela?” Uncle Aiden said, “Oddly, they supposedly haven’t.”
I questioned, “Supposedly?” Uncle Aiden admitted, “I think it’s highly likely the Resistance stops the requests, threatens the Supernatural Council, or they are preparing for a doozy, as they say in your realm.”
I growled, “We can find out if they are gearing up.” Uncle Aiden laughed, “I do not think that is likely. They cannot handle your parents let alone my Kingdom and your other Uncle’s.” Yes, the Hackura realm would smash them like bugs.
Julian snorted, “Damn. Why won’t this chick meet Alexander?” Uncle Aiden said, “Rejection would have to be the main fear.” I frowned, “You think it’s his mate?” Uncle Aiden replied, “Rejection can be of friendship or a romantic kind. This person has already told us they fear we, as a group, will not like them.”
Bernard said, “He knows something more.” I knew that. I asked, “Why does it feel like everyone has secrets about the Resistance? If we know who it is, then let’s go talk to them.” Uncle Aiden replied, “Your mother has given plenty of presentations and evidence she believes correlates to someone in it. The creator of Laxenread actually.”
I gasped, “What? Then did we question said person?” William replied, “No, which I find odd.” Uncle Aiden asked, “How do you know that we haven’t?” Julian answered, “Because mom’s always right and we don’t know anyone in it.”
Uncle Aiden sighed, “There’s no proof and there’s a smattering of evidence to the contrary.” I shrugged, “So? Tell us. We can go talk to said person.” Uncle Aiden chuckled, “I’d love to tell you.” I urged, “So, tell us.”
Bernard perked out in my head. Uncle Aiden looked to the corner then admitted, “Arion would tell you.” I could have him pull me to the Beyond then and ask. William surmised, “You’re not going to tell us.”
Uncle Aiden said, “It could put you at odds with a family member and I will not risk that.” Who? Bernard admitted, “Titan nor Lief have any ideas either.” Uncle Aiden snapped and we were in interesting attire.
Julian chuckled, “These are sort of suits.” Uncle Aiden chuckled, “My daughter has gotten quite into fantasy period romances. So, you’re going for that type of look.” I had on a on black coat, black pants and a shirt that looked like I had a patterned vest on as well.
Julian just had a different colored coat as did William. I grinned, “Who is ready to mess up a party?” William grinned, “Then we come back here and have more fun. Uncle Aiden, you truly love us with this mission.”
Uncle Aiden laughed, “I have to throw in the fun with the killing.” We killed more for the Hackura realm, but we still did for Faerie. I asked, “So, how far are we pushing them?” Uncle Aiden grinned, “Don’t kill them.”
Bernard said, “I feel that means I can rake my claws down some people’s back.” I grinned and glanced at Julian and Preston. Both my brothers felt excited in the bond. Brady linked, “Are you, Julian, and William pranking people?”
I answered, “We have been given permission. So we are crashing a party before the big Faerie party.” Brady chuckled, “I’m free to help if required.” I said, “I think it's an invite only party, but crashing would definitely be funny. I’ll let you know.”
Bernard said, “We need to get the scope of the land before we involve our little brothers.” I agreed, “We do. I don’t want them near the Supernatural Council really.” William asked, “So, do you think we will get in this party?”
Uncle Aiden grinned, “If the Resistance stops you, please get us a contact. I’ll settle for an email. I won’t even give it to Harper’s and Cali’s boy toy lover track it.” I laughed, “I feel like they’d be more likely to give us a burner phone that self-destructs."
Julian teased, “Conners. Julian Conners.” I laughed knowing the bit he was doing. William picked it up, “Our gadgets, please Uncle.” Uncle Aiden smirked, “You don’t need charmed objects since you are going as yourselves but I do have these.”
He conjured handkerchiefs for our coats. I asked, “What does it do?” Uncle Aiden answered, “Records things. We will have pictures and sound when you return. Just in case the camera picks up something your eyes don’t, which I doubt.” I did as well. We were trained very well, but I understand why they had these.
I hugged him, “We won’t let you down.” Uncle Aiden replied, “You never do. Make them suffer for what they’ve done.” Julian questioned, “Why are they keeping you out of so much?” I offered, “The Hackura don’t have a seat there because we police the realms, but you’re supposed to be there.”
Uncle Aiden replied, “I don’t have proof and there are several possible reasons. One, they are jealous that I have more power than they can dream of. This is a small minded way of trying to put me and our family in place.” Bernard growled.
Uncle Aiden continued, “Two, there is something going on they do not want this Kingdom aware of.” William questioned, “How many times have you been kept out?” Uncle Aiden answered, “For the last five ish years, more than we have the entire time we’ve had representation on the council.” What?
I asked, “So, what changed?” Uncle Aiden inclined his head, “What changed indeed? That’s the question that I do not have an answer for when it comes down to it.” Bernard growled, “Let’s get the answer.” I told my wolf, “If Uncle Aiden doesn’t know and hasn’t been able to figure it out, then I doubt we will in a night.”
I hugged my Uncle and walked out. Dad was waiting and raised an eyebrow commenting, “Nice suits. I didn't think this party was a black tie kind of affair.” I teased, “You know it’s not because you’ve been to this party every year.”
Dad agreed, “I have. You guys be safe.” I winked, “We are just causing some chaos and spreading some pain.” Dad smirked, “I see. Aiden is finally sending someone on those invitations we never get.”
Julian laughed, “Of course you know.” Dad winked, “I do know. I also know that if said invitation ever reaches me, Aiden wants me to kill people.” William asked, “Would you?” Dad replied, “I’d kill that Supernatural Council for far less.”
I asked, “Why don’t we have representation at the Supernatural Council like Uncle Aiden?” Dad admitted, “We used to. They claim we are being punished for the old Werewolf Council being corrupt so we have an undetermined period of time without representation.”
I scoffed, “What a crock of s**t! It was their fault that happened! They should’ve policed the Werewolf Council, it's their job! Mom did it because they were too inept.” Dad commented, “I agree.” I questioned, “Why haven’t we leveled their hypocritical asses?”
Dad smirked, “Because sometimes it’s best to let people see the hypocrites for who they are. Everyone agrees this is a slight to the Werewolf Kingdom. People are disillusioned with the Supernatural Council more than they ever have been.”
I realized, “You have a plan to kill them.” Dad admitted, “I think one has to realize when their plan might not work out.” Bernard said, “Thor said another party hates the Supernatural Council more than he does.”
I blinked rapidly putting the pieces together. I gasped, “You think the Resistance will kill the Supernatural Council?” Dad answered, “I think it’s a matter of time. I get calls from them about emails and paperwork but I don’t have it. I never received it and they drop it. They drop everything these days.”
I questioned, “How long?” Dad answered, “Around a little over five years.” William snorted, “The same amount of time Uncle Aiden’s representatives have been kept out of issues at the Supernatural Council? Yeah, that’s fishy.”
Julian agreed, “Someone’s corrupt and they are being blackmailed.” We turned to him. Julian said, “The Resistance is probably blackmailing multiple people on that council or bringing issues of their corruption forward so the Fae are being kept out because mom would swoop in and kill them all.”
Dad said, “I think that’s very logical.” I asked, “Why would the Resistance just leak it and let the masses kill them? Or just kill them all and tell everyone why?” Dad answered, “Because for some reason the Resistance seems to think the Supernatural Council has a purpose.”
I frowned, “What?” Bernard snorted, “To annoy me.” Yeah, all of us really and Alexander. Which was a direct conflict for the Resistance since everything was always about him. Julian linked, “I agree. If we convince the Resistance that the Supernatural Council has upset our older brother then they’d die.” Yeah, we should keep that in our back pocket.
Dad chuckled, “Alexander doesn’t like the Supernatural Council.” We glanced at him. Dad winked, “I can read feelings in the bond too.” I pointed out, “If we want them to die we merely point out how upset he is. Hell, we could have him talk about it somewhere public and watch how fast they die.”
Dad chuckled, “It’s not the worst plan. You guys be careful at this party. People don’t like us and I doubt they will take your pranks well.” I grinned, “I’m kind of counting on it. Bernard wants to scratch people.” Dad laughed, “Pull your mom and I if you need us. Otherwise get back for this party as fast as you can.” He hugged us all.
The bond told me he was confident in us, but he was worried. I assured him, “We got this, dad.” Dad smiled, “P, if I thought you didn’t you would not be going. No matter how old you all get you’re still my pups.”
I teased, “Mom would make sure we went.” Dad laughed, “No, she would not. Your mom trusts me and my judgement. She would make her case, but we listen to each other. We also do not ignore our intuition. Your mom just likes to point out I’m sexist with your sisters.” We all laughed because it was true.
We left dad and found mom. I grinned, “This is a getup, mom.” Mom frowned, “Of course I am awake.” Bernard busted up laughing. I told her, “I mean this is quite the outfit. Has dad seen it?” Mom winked, “Is it still on me?” I threw my head back with Julian and William.
Mom had on a yellow and blue outfit. It looked like she’d taken a sleeveless yellow sweater and cut it so she had the puffy sleeves on with a patch of black. You could see her tube top which was black and had a sweetheart dip and a fishnet material covering her stomach. Mom’s skirt was yellow with a black belt and she had on black boots with yellow laces. William chuckled, “I think dad will love it.” I shot him a look. Mom laughed, “Of f*****g course he will.”
Mom kissed us all on the cheek then grinned, “Be safe and come back for our f*****g fun.” I kissed the top of her head and agreed, “Of course we will.” I walked off and waited for Julian and Wiliam.
Once they joined, we popped to the portal. I laughed out loud when we found Theo waiting there. I asked, “What are you doing here, big brother?” Theo answered, “Making sure you know to be safe.” I grinned, “We are merely attending a party.” Theo snorted, “Uh huh. Cas is over there.” Then he popped away.
Cassie faded in and smirked, “Pull me if you need me.” I teased, “You don’t have a quip about staying safe?” Cassie snorted, “I talk to our little sister. Something everyone else should do. I’ve got the in and Angela adores that I ask her such things. You all should try it. I have found it makes me such a carefree person.” We all rolled our eyes but hugged our big sister.
I linked Julian, “I know EJ and Alexander are watching too.” Julian winked then had a tree branch tap our brothers on the shoulder. Both faded in and gave the nod. William linked, “That nod said so much.” It did. It said we believe in you, but don’t you dare get hurt. Alexander would get to us fastest if we did.
Bernard said, “I am being told to be extra careful.” I held out my index finger then left through the portal. William popped us to the location and we handed over our invitations. The guy frowned, “These were supposed to be for….”
I cut him with a growl, “We know damn well who they are for and if you’d look at us you’d know we are related.” The guy looked up and dropped the clipboard. He stammered, “Which Conners pups are you?”
Bernard took over, “I am no pup.” The man stammered, “Right. Umm right.” I rolled my eyes. Julian chuckled, “I’m Julian and these are my brothers. I’d introduce them but if you can’t figure it out from my name you just really don’t deserve to know.” My lips twitched as we walked inside.
People gasped when they noticed us but we kept walking into the main room. William linked, “Mom just does parties better.” I agreed, “She does. Lexi is worlds above this too. Why the hell didn’t they hire her?” William replied, “Let’s find out.”
Without missing a beat William hummed, “Someone could use Bull’s Eye Events card.” Someone muttered, “They refuse to work with us.” I nearly laughed. I nodded to Julian and he went off to do his charms.
I spotted one of the representatives' daughters looking stunningly gorgeous but her sorrow was going to drown me soon. I linked William, “I'll draw their attention.” William followed my gaze and snorted, “You’re asking for trouble, brother.” I replied, “She’s beautiful though. It could be worth it and I want to ease her sorrow. She’s so sad it reaches her eyes and the whole room is ignoring a jewel. I’m no fool like they are.”
I walked to the blonde in the teal strapless sweetheart neckline ballgown. I offered my hand, “Would you care to dance, milady?” The girl blushed then whispered, “No one asks me to dance.” I replied, “I just did.” The smile that overtook her face was going to make the confrontation worth it.
Bernard scoffed, “I bet these cowards don’t even talk to her.” I was getting the impression.” I took her to the dance floor. I heard the whispers, “What is he doing?” “He can’t dance with her!” Bernard scoffed in my head.
I asked, “What’s your name, beautiful?” She blinked at me and would’ve missed a step in the dance if I hadn’t been leading. Eventually she answered, “I’m Fleur." I replied, "Beautiful name, little flower.” Fleur blushed.
I introduced myself, “I’m Preston Conners.” Fleur admitted, “I knew that you were a Conners. I don’t think anyone else would be brave enough to ask me to dance.” I questioned, “Why is that?”
Fleur answered, “I’m a Princess of the Pallas Cats.” I replied, “I knew what you were.” Bernard growled, “Her cat says everyone ignores her because her father is friends with Herman and her sister is the and I quote ‘pretty one’. I already hate everyone.”
