Amnesia Pt. 2

I ran and opened the front door. Nathan McDermont stared at me then asked, “Piper?” I answered, “Yes, I’m Piper. I’d ask what you're doing here but Remi called.” Nathan laughed, “I guess I did mention I’d like to meet the girl that has my grandpa so taken with her. We were supposed to meet a few times.” I admitted, “I know that.” Nathan chuckled, “Is this your house? Or did Remi have you come to the air bnb too? I can find somewhere else to stay.” Sora laughed, “No, he won’t.” I admitted, “You won’t. Everywhere is booked and we have a spare room.” I gestured for him to come in. I said, “Mom’s in the shower because she did some yard work but she’ll be down soon.” Nathan shrugged, “The churros you’re cooking smell amazing.” My jaw dropped. Sora gasped, “Oh my god.” I heard Remi scream from my pocket. Nathan asked, “Was that Remi?” I answered, “Uh huh. We aren’t cooking churros.” Nathan replied and tapped his nose, “You can’t get them past me, they are my favorite dessert.” I admitted, “I know you can’t get things past a Werewolf’s sense of smell, but I’m telling you we are not cooking churros.” Nathan smiled at me, “I think your mom cooked them without you know. I am so curious as to what you are. My family has all kept it a secret.” Sora urged, “Tell our stepfather what we are. We both know he’s smelling mom.” Yeah, I knew that. I admitted, “I’m a Kitsune.” Nathan blinked. Sora took over, “The Crown Princess of the Kitsune to be exact. They just don’t know about me. Which is annoying to both my human and myself.” His wolf took over, “Hello, I’m Hunt.” Sora replied, “Sora.” Hunt said, “I’m sorry that it must hurt you about your kind not knowing about you. I do know my grandpa adores you as his own.” Sora replied, “I love him as my own too. My mom’s dad is horrid and from what I’ve heard of my sire’s I’m not impressed.” Hunt threw his head back and laughed. Hunt told her, “It’s good to be able to recognize that people may be s**t even if they are blood.” Sora replied, “I am quite smart as is my human.” Hunt said, “My human is craving the churros now. They do smell quite good.” Sora replied, “That is not food.” I took back over and so did Nathan. Mom called, “Do I hear voices down there?” I answered, “You do. We have company, so come down decent.” That was our code. Mom knew I didn’t care about what she wore, but she’d put on something cute now because I’d said that. Nathan whispered, “Does…?” He trailed off. I answered, “Yes, my mom smells like churros.” Sora admitted, “It’s a very comforting scent.” Yes, it was. Mom shouted, “FYI, I’m loving the guest that brought vanilla cupcakes with him. They smell delicious.” Nathan sucked in a breath and I quickly helped him sit down. Remi screamed, “OH MY f*****g GOD!” I took my phone out of my pocket, “I have to go, you meddler.” Remi shouted, “I am the actual Queen. I’m calling Jane right now. Like this actual very second!” Nathan said, “Your mom is human.” I answered, “She is. If that bothers you, you’re nothing like your grandfather and you can get out.” Sora huffed, “That will be quite disappointing.” Nathan replied, “I don’t care what blood runs through her veins. You’re a good daughter.” Sora agreed, “We are the best.” I nearly laughed out loud. I shrugged, “Maybe. I know that my mom’s the best mom there is out there. I know that your grandpa has always felt like family to me and I know my mom’s your second chance mate. I also know if you’re not ready or you can’t love my mom the way you should you’re walking right back out that door.” Nathan stared at me. Sora said, “Hunt has a lot to say.” I’m sure he did. Nathan said, “I hope you know the level of security on your mom might annoy her. I’m not a whole man anymore.” I shrugged, “Whose whole when you think about it? We all have our baggage and clue the pieces of hearts back together and keep living. Mom doesn’t need someone who is whole. She needs someone who will show up and love her how she deserves. My mom put her whole life on hold to raise me and still does because I’m being hunted by an asshole.” Nathan growled, “I know about that. I’ll help protect you now, Piper.” I shrugged, “I have a plan.” Nathan warned, “You can have a plan all you want. I will not let anything happen to my stepdaughter. I’m an Alpha blood too. I’ll help with your plan. I come with a lot of allies too.” I admitted, “I know that you do, but this is my fight.” Nathan replied, “It’s now our family’s fight too. My grandpa will absolutely feel that way as well. We will help you take this man on. Just try and be on my side when your mom loses her s**t about her protection details.” He said that part with a smirk. I told him, “My mom is one of the most reasonable people you’ve ever met. She cried on and off for a month after you lost your mate. We were going to try to help with Jane, but the Resistance got word to you guys. Then you were going in before we could do try.” Nathan smiled, “My pups will like you. Thank you for being willing to join the search parties for her.” I asked, “Are you really ok with this?” Nathan answered, “I am. I know that she would’ve wanted me to move on and be happy. I knew this was coming too. Luna Emmaline told me.” I snorted, “Luna Emmaline knew Remi set you up?” Nathan admitted, “No, she told me my second chance was coming sooner rather than later. As far as Remi setting me up, I should’ve known. Jane and Remi got that one by me because I’ve been traveling for a bit now. They threw this into the middle of my travels so I wasn’t on the scent. “ Sora chuckled, “That’s very Gamma wolf of Remi. She threw any scent of this off.” I replied, “Remi thought she was hooking them up to date, not be mated.” Sora admitted, “I am very happy for mom.” I was too. Mom came down the stairs, “Ok, who came with cupcakes?” Mom came down in the white dress I’d just bought for her. It had a bow tied in the middle and brown buttons on the skirt. Mom gasped, “Nathan.” Nathan growled, “MINE!” Mom’s jaw dropped, “What?” I said, “It’s true. He came in asking about the churros we were cooking.” Mom whispered to me, “He smells like a vanilla cupcake?” Nathan chuckled, “I haven’t ever heard my scent described that way. Vanilla is usually the way it’s described. Yours is very specific.” They were staring at each other. I said, “I’ll just go for run.” Mom turned, “You’ll be careful right.” I grinned, “I found an obscure place Sora and I liked the other night.” Nathan said, “I can find her then because I’m good at finding such places.” I laughed, “There’s a cove that leads out to the ocean.” They both nodded. I squeezed my mom’s hand, “He’s a good guy.” Mom whispered, “I know.” I kissed her cheek then said, “I’m happy for you.” Sora took over, “I am as well. Talk or more than talk.” Mom gasped, “Piper Grace!” Sora laughed. I took over, “Blaming me for what Sora says.” Sora snorted, “We’d be all over Preston Conners. He’s our crush, Hunt is mom’s.” Yeah, I can’t believe she didn’t tell me that. Sora replied, “Yes, you can. He was mated and mom would’ve never pursued that.” I knew that. I walked out the back door and saw them sit down together on the couch. They were adorable. I took off jogging for the woods. I made the trek to the place I’d found and shifted into Sora. I was running around for about an hour when I shifted back. I walked over to the area where the tide was coming in. Sora said, “That seems like a riptide would carry you out.” I replied, “Or kill you.” Then my senses went on high alert. Sora wanted, “We are not alone.” I knew that. I turned, “Who is there.” A man came out of the shadows. Sora made her noise of anger and snarled, “NINKO!” This guy?! The man chuckled, “It’s Coleman.” I hummed, “I’d say charmed but that would be a lie. My mom raised me better than that.” Sora huffed, “How dare he confront us when mom is having her mate moment!” I sighed, “Yeah, at least we’ve been out here for bit. Hopefully, they got to talk or make out.” Sora snorted, “I hope they had spicy sex.” I choked. The man laughed, “Do you not like my name?” I admitted, “Not at all. If I was going to guess I’d have picked a less bland name for an evil villain. You’ve got a basic dude name and you’re acting outside your station." Sora cackled, “Oh my god. You are going with Remi’s plan to piss him off?” I answered, “Well, he’s the one who changed the plan, not me. I’m adaptable.” Coleman looked pissed. I asked, “Were you expecting a warm welcome?” Coleman replied, “I’m trying to help you where the Kitsunes left you to flounder.” I shrugged, “I’m doing just fine on my own.” Coleman snorted, “We could go to our home and rule together.” I pointed out, “This is my home.” Coleman scoffed, “You’re not meant to be here. You have to know you’re meant for more.” I reasoned, “My father is the Tenko.” Coleman sneered, “Yet you’re not with him. He’s raising his son who has no interest in taking over to be King, when you should be Queen.” Sora said, “This Ninko knows about our family.” Clearly. I asked, “Do you know where my father is?” Coleman answered, “Yes. If you come with me, I’ll tell you. We could get married and rule together.” Sora scoffed, “Pass.” I said, “You seem to be under a misconception that I would marry someone who has been stalking me.” Coleman frowned, “That’s a harsh word.” I snorted, “What would you call it? You killed a couple humans.” Coleman waved, “They didn’t matter. They are mere humans. I felt you must not have cared considering you didn’t come to me.” Sora said, “So, he’s insane.” I replied, “I’m not coming with you. I have a life here.” Coleman scoffed, “What life? You run from place to place and you never get to be with your kind.” I pointed out, “You are not my kind.” Coleman scoffed, “I’m the closest you’ve ever gotten to it.” He shifted into his Ninko. Sora scoffed, “He looks evil.” Yeah, he was black and blue with reddish eyes He had ten tails took and some sort of jewel on his neck. He shifted back, “See? We are similar.” Sora scoffed, “We are not black and our tails don’t have blue rings around them.” I said, “My Kitsune and I disagree.” He made a noise of anger. I laughed humorlessly, “All this time to practice your pitch to get me to come with you and that’s what you have? Gosh, it’s almost like your plan was to kidnap me.” Coleman questioned, “Don’t you understand that your father never cared about you?” I said, “Whether he does or does not has no bearing on this conversation.” Coleman shouted, “They left you out here alone knowing that I’m hunting a Kitsune!” Sora scoffed, “Well, now that he put it that way, let’s go with him.” I sighed, “He thinks we are stupid.” Sora huffed, “I think he believes we are angry enough at our sire to make a stupid decision.” That didn’t make sense. I had a great mother. I said, “Well, it’s too bad you couldn’t have approached me with your insane ask a while ago since I could’ve just stayed where I wanted and stopped moving so much.” Coleman scoffed, “I don’t know how your mom always knew to move on anytime I got close. When you were younger, there were rumors of a Kitsune out there.” I questioned, “How?” Coleman smirked, “Oddly enough, your mother’s family.” I replied, “They don’t know what I am.” Coleman agreed, “That they didn’t, but they were ones who got me on your trail talking about weird things you could do. I knew no wolf would move as much as they described. I was after your father’s mate, but then I realized you were all alone and focused on you.” I replied, “I’m not all alone and it took you eighteen years to realize I wasn’t with the Kitsunes? You’re pretty slow on the uptake.” Coleman turned red, “I had to make sure that you weren’t a trap.” Sora said, “Goodie. He’s paranoid and crazy.” Well, he was a stalker. Coleman insisted, “Come home with me, we will rule. Your family will fall in line with our rule then.” I laughed, “I’m not hearing the uptakes for me here. We don’t see eye to eye on how to handle things, and I don’t care what my family does.” Coleman jolted, “Aren’t you mad at them?” I replied, “I don’t know them.” Coleman shouted, “They left you alone. We are meant to rule together.” I replied, “Shiylo sees that differently since you are not my mate.” Coleman scoffed, “My mate is weak.” I shouted, “IS?! You want me to marry you and you’re mated? God, you’re gross.” Coleman waved, “My mate understands.” Sora offered, “I don’t think so.” I told him bluntly, “I would never be with a mated man.” Coleman sighed, “I tried to be nice.” I asked, “When were you nice? Did I miss it? Try again, I’ll pay more attention this time.” Sora laughed. He began to change and his hands glowed blue. I asked, “Uhh Sora, what the hell?” Sora shouted, “GET AWAY FROM HIM! HE’S TRYING TO TAKE ME FROM YOU!” I scoffed, “He can’t do that.” Sora took over and began to run. I turned to see him aiming a blue blast at us. I hit the ground, did a volleyball roll over my shoulder as it passed us and kept running. Sora jumped left then right. Did I have blast rays? Grandpa Ralph’s voice echoed in my mind, “In a fight you’re not sure if you can win, never show all your cards. Let them underestimate you for the next fight.” I asked my Kitsune, “Can he take you from me?” Sora replied, “Very powerful Ninko’s can trap Kitsune spirits. I don’t know if he can. He didn’t seem that powerful, but he must have help.” Coleman appeared in front of me. I threw a punch and he went down. He got back up and we began to throw punches. I was trained differently from him, but he gave as good as he got. Coleman scoffed, “You don’t even know your powers.” Sora said, “I loathe him.” Yeah, well he was wrong. I did know some of my powers. He pulled a bat and held it out at me. I asked, “Is that supposed to scare me?” He scoffed, “It’s made of cold and Iron.” Ok, so avoiding that was going to be key. He swung and I dunked. At one point I had to grab it with both hands. I screamed because it burned but didn’t let got and kicked him in the gut. I shouted, “Coward!” Coleman frowned, “Why won’t you just come home?” I repeated, “This is my home.” Coleman tapped the end of his bat and a blast hit me full force. Sora whispered, “I’m sleepy, Piper.” I shouted, “No! Don’t leave me!” Sora tiredly said, “I’m not leaving. I’m just going to take a nap.” My necklace that my mom bought me was now glowing white and that shot back at Coleman who gasped. His face turned red and he shouted, “NO!” Sora told me, “I’m still here, Piper, but I just have to sleep. You can beat him.” I begged, “Don’t go to sleep! I need you.” Sora replied, “You have never needed me. We are a team.” I cried, “You’re an important part of the team.” Sora warned, “Don’t fight him, Piper. Get out of here. You’re smart, you can do this. The magic on that necklace protected me, but I have to sleep.” Then she was out. I screamed, “SORA!” She didn’t answer. I pleaded, “Sora, wake up.” I felt her in me though, but she was unreachable. I screamed, “YOU RAT BASTARD!” I charged him and we fought. He was using tricks that I didn’t have without Sora. I hadn’t used my powers, but now I didn’t think I could with Sora asleep. I didn’t want to try without her. I heard Nathan yell, “PIPER! PIPER WHERE ARE YOU? ANSWER ME!” He was too far away. Coleman made a noise of anger. I snorted, “Sure, tell him exactly where we are.” Coleman said, “I’ll kill him then take you.” I could not let that happen. I glanced behind me at the cliff where the tide was coming in. Coleman said, “Piper, no.” I turned and stared at him. Coleman said, “We’ll leave the man alone. Just come with me. Don’t jump, you’ll die.” I wasn’t going to die. I could swim really well. Coleman insisted, “Don’t do it.” I turned and ran. I screamed, “RUN, NATHAN! GET OUT OF HERE!” Coleman tried to grab me as I jumped, but I’d made it. I did it! I plunged into the water and nearly screamed because it was freezing. The current caught me and I tried not to panic. I was trying to swim, but I was violently thrown and caught my head on a rock where everything went dark. I heard beeping all around me. What was that? Someone said, “Her hand is moving! Piper, sweetie open your eyes honey.” Who was that? I opened my eyes. A woman burst into tears, “Oh thank god. Piper, we were so worried.” I blinked at this woman. A man touched my head and I screamed. A man growled, “Don’t touch her!” The man said, “I’m doing my job. It’s a miracle you found her in that current.” Found me? Where was I? I asked, “Where I am?” The woman said, “You’re in a hospital, sweetie. Nathan found you and we brought you here. This doctor,” Wow, that was a tone, “has been something.” I snorted, “She doesn’t like you, doctor.” The doctor sighed, “Parents tend to be testing when their children are hurt, particularly mothers.” I asked the woman, “Are you my mom?” Everyone froze. The woman answered, “Yes, I’m your mom. Don’t you remember me?” I answered, “No.” The doctor said, “Piper, can you tell me what year it is?” I asked, “Is that my name?” Then I panicked, “Oh my god! I don’t know my own name! What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I know anything?” Everything in my mind seemed like a total blank. Something was wrong. I cried, “Something is missing! I know I’m missing something! What is it?” The doctor said, “You actually came in with everything. Your mom has your necklace.” I shook my head, “NO! It’s not a necklace! It’s someone! I’m missing someone! Who is it?” I burst into tears knowing that something was very wrong. The man growled, “You’re scaring her and you need to leave.” The doctor sighed, “I’m doing my job, which you people are making hard. She doesn’t remember you, just give us some space.” Mom snorted, “I’m not leaving you with my daughter! She doesn’t remember anything.” The doctor put a hand on my mom, but the growling man had his hand in a second. He growled, “Don’t touch her.” I laughed, “Wow. Dad, you’re protective.” Nathan said, “I am going to be your stepfather. My name is Nathan.” I asked, “Did my dad not care that I was here?” The doctor said, “Too much information is not a good idea here.” I gasped, “Did he die? Is that who is missing?” Mom quickly said, “No, he’s not dead.” Ok. The doctor said, “We need to get her down to CT.” I was wheeled off while Nathan held onto my mom. A nurse said, “I know this is scary.” I whispered, “That’s not the right word.” As a tear slipped down my face. The nurse asked, “What’s the right word?” I admitted, “I don’t know, but I know I’m missing something very important to me. Like part of my soul.” The nurse said, “As far as I know you were alone, so no significant other was in the accident with you.” What accident?! I thought I was swimming. The CT didn’t take long and I wheeled back to a very nice room. I asked, “Where is this?” The nurse answered, “This is your room.” Mom gasped, “Piper.” Another woman gasped, “Pipes! God, you scared me.” Mom whispered, “Remi.” An older man said, “You gave us a fright. We just got the call.” He slapped the back of Nathan’s head. Nathan said, “Grandpa, there’s…” Remi hugged me tightly, “You can’t scare me like that. What the hell happened?” I admitted, “I don’t know.” Remi snorted, “Pipes, it’s me. Tell me all. I’ll get a whiteboard if necessary to solve the crime.” I asked, “Are you a cop?” Another man came into the room and froze. Remi frowned, “What? No. Piper are you ok?” I pointed around the room, “No.” Remi laughed, “Ok, you had me worried for a second.” Mom said, “Remi, Piper lost her memories.” Remi asked, “Of what?” Mom whispered, “Everything. She doesn’t even know me.” Remi gasped, “Excuse the f**k out of me?! Girl, you don’t remember me?!” I answered, “No.” Remi frowned, “Sora, talk to me.” I asked, “Is that my middle name?” Remi gasped, “What?!” A man grabbed her around the waist and they seemed to communicate with a look. Remi burst into tears. I apologized, “I’m sorry I upset you.” Remi waved, “No, I’m not mad at you. I don’t know who I’m mad at yet, but I’ll find a target. Have you no fear.” The doctor came in. I asked, “So, what’s the verdict?” The man answered, “You’ve suffered a traumatic brain injury.” Remi growled, “I will get my hands on whoever is responsible and they will SUFFER!” I snickered. The doctor said, “Well, I’m sure it was rock in the ocean so let’s not do that.” Remi asked, “Why was she IN the ocean?!” The doctor replied, “I cannot answer that. Only Piper can, and she can’t remember.” Another doctor came in and cleared his throat. The doctor waved, “This is the Nero consult.” Nathan, Remi, and Grandpa Ralph relaxed. The neuro guy said, “The good news is, you don’t surgery Piper.” I didn’t know what surgery was, so that was something. I asked, “When will I remember my life? Oh god. How old am I?” The older man said, “You’re twenty.” The doctor said, “Part of your brain is sleeping.” He stared at Nathan, the older man, the guy with Remi, and Remi then my mom. That seemed to mean something to them. I asked, “What does that mean? And how do I wake it up?” The man admitted, “I don’t know that. It can depends from TBI to TBI.” I nearly shouted, “I don’t know what TBI means!” Mom put her hand on me admitting, “I don’t either.” I squeezed her hand. The neuro guys apologized, “I’m sorry, habit. It stands for traumatic brain injury. I’m confident your memories will return and your brain will wake up. My test have not produced a timeline though.”
