What am I? Pt. 2

Mom and I left our house. Several friends waved at me shouting, “You got this, Piper!” I waved back as the nerves filled me. Mom squeezed my hand and whispered, “Everything is going to be ok, Piper.” I leaned into her and walked to where the Alpha and Gamma were waiting. The voice in my head hummed, “This is a good spot. We are secluded and safe.” The Alpha said, “Our patrols are running, but none will come near here. You are safe, Piper.” I smiled, “Thank you. My counterpart likes this spot.” The Gamma said, “I’m damn glad your counterpart came to you ahead of time. It sucks when there’s a scramble at midnight because a hybrid didn’t know they were shifting.” They’d had humans they monitored when they had kids with a Werewolf. They’d be waiting to move in as paramedics. I agreed, “Me too since I’m not sixteen.” The Gamma smirked, “Plenty of people shift at different times, Kiddo.” Except I wasn’t what any of them were. I’d never run across someone who wasn’t like me. Well, other than that asshole in my forest dream. It felt real. The voice in my head agreed, “It was very real. Let’s stay away from that man. By the way, I am Sora.” I greeted, “Piper, but you knew that.” Sora laughed, ‘That I did. Now, I need you to lay flat. The pain we feel is mostly in the buttocks area.” I snorted, “Great.” Sora teased, “It’s better than all your limbs breaking though. Right?” I conceded, “That’s true.” I laid down flat. Mom encouraged, “That’s it, Piper just do what’s natural to you.” It felt like fire gripped my ass. I grabbed the dirt and cried out. I heard mom crying, “It’s ok, baby.” I swear to god, I felt a tail come out. The Alpha said, “Ok, we are getting somewhere.” I screamed as I felt more, what felt like fire shooting out of my butt. It happened ten times and took what felt like forever. The Gamma said, “Wow.” They sounded shocked. I was still in human form but I felt like my tails began to swirl. Sora said, “Because our tails are spinning.” I was lifted off the ground into a vortex. Mom shouted, “You’ve got this, Piper.” I could hear the confidence in her tone, but also the fear. Probably because I was in the air. I felt myself changing into an animal. Eventually, I came back down and stared at everyone around me. Mom gasped, “Piper, you’re stunning!” The Alpha agreed, “You are.” The Gamma laughed, “Tell the girl what she looks like.” The Alpha answered, “Well, you’re a fox with ten tails that are white but blue with what looks like blue fire.” That made the forest make sense. The Alpha added, “You have a s**t head, black ears, blue fire looking eyes, black legs and a white body.” I was a fox with ten tails? I WAS A KITSUNE?! Mom and I had researched a ton of Supernaturals so we’d know when I shifted what I was. Sora answered, “We are a Royal Kitsune.” SHUT UP! I asked, “Royal? Not just like an Alpha?” Sora replied, “Our sire is the Tenko. It is higher than an Alpha. Our sire is the King of the Kitsunes.” Holy crap. Mom said, “You’re a Kitsune, sweetie.” I knew that. Sora praised, “Mom is a wise human who researched so much so we could know what we are. I actually am impressed she’s looked up what we are. This realm does not often consider us in this region.” Mom looked up literally everything she could that was rare and uncommon. The Alpha said, “Damn. Kitsunes didn’t die out.” Mom asked, “Do you know about them?” The Alpha replied, “Actually, the pack you’re heading back to knew them best. Their archives will be helpful.” Pride filled me because that had been my call. Sora agreed, “Your instincts are definitely something to follow.” The Alpha continued, “That pack suspected they had a realm, but they don’t talk about it much. The former Alpha liked that lore the most.” Except it wasn’t lore and they’d know that. Sora confirmed, “We are obviously not lore. The Kitsunes used to come to this realm often.” I questioned, “We have a different realm?” Sora laughed, “We have what looks like blue fire in our tails. Even if we just had one tail, we do not look like something from this realm.” That was an excellent point. No wonder we could never reach dad. He probably wasn’t in this realm. Sora disagreed, “Our sire is in this realm.” I jolted, “What? I thought you couldn’t contact him!” Sora explained, “I cannot but I know he is in this realm. Not where though. I’m sorry I am not of more help.” I questioned, “Can he feel us?” Sora said, “Kitsunes feel a shift in the air when their children are born.” I was stunned, “My dad knows about me?” Sora replied, “No. It is likely our sire has a kit our age.” I snorted, “The doctors made mom feel like she was wrong about my conception date because I came early.” Sora replied, “For Kitsunes you were late. It is possible our sire met his mate and you were born near or around the same date as his next kit. He would think the change in the air was for that kit. Or came up with another explanation for the change.” I asked, “Like what?” Sora admitted, “I don’t know, but I know our Sire doesn’t know about us.” Well, my Kitsune was full of helpful knowledge. The Alpha asked, “Do you want to run with us?” I felt my tails begin to swish. Sora bowed my head to them, indicating she did. Mom wiped away tears, “You go on, sweetie. I’ll finish packing us up.” She must have done a lot of work while I was napping. I felt bad about that. I usually helped. Sora said, “We needed our rest to shift. Our mom wisely understood that. She is unique. I see why Shiylo allowed us to be conceived with her as our mother.” I asked, “Is that our god?” Shiylo answered, “Yes.” I asked, “Why can’t he let our dad know about us?” Sora replied, “He should know. The air changed, but there are clearly other circumstances we are not aware of. Our kind believes in journeys that must be taken by each individual. We are blessed with an excellent mother to guide us as well as she can.” That was true. I knew for a fact I could not have a better mother. The Alpha and Gamma shifted and took off. I wasn’t as fast as they were but they were running straight whereas Sora ran in zigzags looking for cover. The Alpha and Gamma noticed and began to follow her patterns. It felt like no time had passed but the sun was rising by the time we made it back to where I shifted. Sora said, “That was fun.” I asked, “How do I shift back?” Sora answered, “Think of your normal form.” I felt my tails disappear and then I was on all fours. No vortex. I simply became human once my tails were gone. The Gamma said, “Well, you get to keep your underwear. That’s nice.” My shirt was gone though. They quickly handed me spares and they got dressed. I felt nervous as I said, “Thank you for being there for me and running with us. I know we didn’t run like you guys do.” The Gamma laughed, “I know how foxes run now.” Sora snorted, “I am a Kitsune, though I understand the comparison.” I asked, “Do you consider yourself above werefoxes?” Sora replied, “I am royal and I have powers.” So, yes. Sora corrected, “Not exactly in the way you mean. I don’t mind foxes or any other shifter type. I have powers and foxes do not. I also have more tails, but we do have similarities to them.” Ok, that made sense. The Alpha said, “I’m honored we got to run with you.” They took me home where mom was waiting. Mom asked, “Do you need to sleep in the car?” I answered, “I’m pretty energized honestly.” The Alpha commented, “That’s normal. Let’s get you food before you two head out. Tonight, you’ll crash pretty hard.” They took us into the main house where a buffet was waiting. Mom nudged me, “I had them order some sushi.” I loved sushi. Mom teased, “Plus, I brought over our Ramen.” I ate that like it was going out of style if I was honest. I quickly began eating everything in sight. Sora said, “Mom really is the best. She had things from our culture brought in.” I asked, “Is my dad from Japan?” Sora answered, “I do not know where our Sire is from. He told mom he lived in the states. I doubt he lied. Kitsunes came through the portal in Japan though.” It was probably still there then. Sora agreed, “It is likely but until we know more, we won’t go there.” There was no way we could learn more. I kept eating. Sora argued, “Not necessarily. The pack we are going to might know more.” That was true. Sora continued cautiously, “The question remains why would our Sire be born and raised in the United States instead of our realm. That suggests our Sire and Tenko is hiding with the Kitsunes. Our home realm might not be safe for us.” That was a valid point. Maybe the Kitsunes were hiding, just like we were. They were just together. Once I finished eating I thanked the Alpha family, “Thank you so much for having this ready and for everything really.” The Alpha smiled, “It’s not a problem. You and your mother are a delight. You are both always welcome here.” I loved that Alpha’s never considered me a threat. We lived in one pack for a hot second, but when another kid with Alpha blood came into the pack they acted hostile. Mom called them on their bullshit and left. The kid couldn’t help what blood was in his veins and they were shitty for treating him that way. His dad had died. He was the third son of the former Alpha. His mom wanted to get away from all her memories with him but nowhere accepted them. Last I heard they were either going to Black Mountain or returning home. No one had ever treated me that way though. Sora snorted, “Which is crazy, we are quite strong. I am glad they accepted us though. It feels quite nice.” Mom and I hugged everyone and left. We got in our SUV that was packed down to head back to the east coast. The pack I wanted to stay with was in Rhode Island. We drove out of South Caroline. I whispered, “Bye for now.” Mom squeezed my thigh. “It’s a little over thirteen hours to Rhode Island.” I told her, “We don’t have to drive straight through, mom.” Mom waved, “We’ll see. I have energy drinks and I’m buzzing on the knowledge of knowing I got with a Kitsune. I’ve been researching more in depth.” I laughed, “That’s so you, mom.” Mom winked, “Who knew I had it going on like that? I got with a Supernatural that keeps to themselves. I actually feel honored. No wonder I was able to have you, they are picky.” Sora agreed, “Our god is quite picky.” I laughed, “My counterpart agrees with you.” Mom squealed, “Tell me everything about her!” I smiled, “Her name is Sora. She’s told me quite a bit.” Mom squealed again. I continued, “I have powers.” Mom grinned, “I knew that one. Well, the lore said there were powers and I chose to believe that was correct.” I admitted, “I don’t know what they are yet though.” Mom encouraged me, “We will figure it out.” I told her, “She said dad, well she calls him our sire.” Mom busted up laughing then waved on arm saying, “That is the best way to refer to Pernell of all time.” Sora chuckled, “I am glad I amuse our mom.” I admitted, “It is funny. Sora said he should know about us.” Mom insisted, “I swear to you both he doesn’t. Pernell is a good guy. He’d never leave you out here with me to bumble our way through this and figure things out.” I explained, “Sora thinks he had another kid, well she says kit, my age. That he found his mate and the timing could work out because I was late for a kitsune.” Mom laughed, “Are you kidding me? I’m so glad it wasn’t like a Werewolf pregnancy at three months. Really? Kitsunes have shorter than an eight month pregnancy? Those doctors told me I was crazy for wanting Piper in the NICU for being early.” Sora took over to answer, “Hello, mom.” Mom teared up, “Hi, Sora. I want you to know how loved you are.” Sora said, “I can tell from Piper’s memories. Kitsunes have a seven and half month pregnancy." Mom teased, “That’s not so short. That’s more in line with Witches.” Sora replied, “Unlike others, we are with our counterparts, we are just sleeping until the eve of their fourteenth birthday. The longer pregnancies are so our tails can grow.” Mom told her, “That’s so exciting. Your tails and you are beautiful.” Sora replied, “Thank you, mom.” Sora gave me control back. I told her, “I’m Royal.” Mom nodded, “That makes sense. I told you that your dad was an Alpha type.” I hummed, “No, like dad’s the King not just the Alpha. Sora called it a Tenko though.” Mom busted out laughing again. Mom laughed, “Damn. I pulled a King. That’s something. It’s crazy but still something. I slept with a King. He was probably the Crown Prince then though.” I continued, “He should’ve felt a change in the air when I was born. Sora thinks he had another kid around the same time.” Mom sighed, “I wish Pernell would’ve checked on me, but I did move. He might not have memorized my number and I have changed it since I left.” Except she didn’t for two years after I was born. I sighed, “Mom, I know you kept that phone with the number for years.” Mom winced, “I did but it’s unlikely your dad knew. He was kidnapped, Piper. He probably didn’t get his old phone contacts transferred over.” Sora made an angry noise, “If we ever find who kidnapped our sire, we will kill them. It’s their fault he doesn’t have mom’s number.” I reasoned, “The Conners and Cambridge’s found those people. They are definitely dead.” Sora acknowledged, “That is likely true. The Hackura are not a passive group of people.” Not even kind of. Mom asked, “What else?” I answered, “Well, there’s a Kitsune realm and Sora is worried because dad doesn’t live there.” Mom frowned, “He could now but he did grow up in the states. He mentioned a house in Europe but I never found his name anywhere.” I knew that. I explained, “Sora senses our Sire lives in this realm, but she cannot contact him because he never met me.” Mom groaned, “Ugh. Well, that’s the first thing I don’t like about Kitsunes. Sora should be able to contact Alpine. I’m certain that is his name. I swear I heard Pernell say that when I was sleeping more than once.” Sora excitedly told me, “I know she’s right. That is our Sire’s name! I know it now that she’s said it.” I squealed, “Sora confirmed now that you said it! Alpine is dad’s Kitsune’s name.” Mom grinned, “Score one for my weird sleeping habits. It did help when you were born so it’s more like score number two.” Mom gently asked, “Does that help her be able to contact him?” Sora took over again, “Sadly, no. Piper would’ve had to meet our sire to contact him.” Mom asked, “Do we need to join packs now?” Sora replied, “No. I do not need a pack. My Leash is out there, but I don’t need the connection like wolves do.” Mom asked, “Is a Leash your version of a pack?” Sora replied, “Yes, it is.” Mom teased, “That’s a name.” Sora laughed, “Yes, it’s a tether though that ties us to people. Kitsunes do not require a leash though.” Sora let me take back over. Mom smiled at me saying, “My little girl is a Princess. I always knew that about you.” I asked, “If I’m the oldest, am I the Crown Princess of the Kitsunes?” Sora answered, “Yes.” Mom admitted, “I have no idea.” I said, “Sora says yes.” Mom whistled, “Wow. That’s heavy.” I snorted, “My sibling would probably hate me if that were true. They are probably being raised to think it’s their right, not mine.” Sora replied, “Our sibling would feel wrong about it.” I snorted, “Great.” Mom said, “Piper, no one could hate you.” I explained, “Sora said our sibling would know something was wrong with their title.” Mom made a face, “That’s a lot of off feelings for everyone to have.” I realized, “You’re upset with dad.” Mom admitted, “I don’t want to be, but Sora said he felt the change in the air. I’m sure there’s an explanation but that does that make me angry for you? Yes. It really does. Pernell should know you and I’ve always thought that. Knowing his Supernatural side felt the change and didn’t scour the United States until he found me to confirm If I had our child torques me.” Sora said, “That is a fair feeling.” I asked, “Are we like Fairies? They like things to be fair.” Sora replied, “Not to the degree they are. Kitsunes understand life is not fair, but mom has an excellent point about our Sire. He should have tracked down the option for a mother of his child. Unless our birthday is the same date as our sibling.” I questioned, “Who is the heir to the Kitsunes if we were born on the same day?” Sora said, “Us.” I asked, “Why?” Sora replied, “We were conceived first. We will likely be stronger than any of our siblings.” I gasped, “What?” Mom giggled, “This is so fun! I know you’re talking to Sora. I can’t wait to hear what’s going on.” Sora said, “We are not wolves, Piper. Their strongest pups are with their mates, but Kitsunes rarely have kits outside their mates. We are blessed by our god. Shiylo himself granted us life and blessed the union between our mom and Sire.” Holy crap on a cracker. Mom asked, “What is it Piper?” I whispered, “The god of the Kitsunes is Shiylo and I’ll be stronger than any of dad’s other kids.” Mom asked, “Are you certain? I’m human after all?” I answered, “Sora is sure. Apparently Kitsunes rarely have kids outside their mates. If they do, that child is blessed and granted by Shiylo himself. Your union, as my Kitsune says, was blessed by a god.” Mom snorted, “Damn. This gets crazier the more we learn. Ok. Well, if any of your siblings have a problem with that should we find them one day, they can contend with me.” Sora said, “They will not. They know the ways of Kitsunes. Everyone has their path. Kitsunes do not begrudge that path to their siblings.” I told her, “Sora seems to think they won’t. They believe in paths that are taken.” Mom snorted, “Yeah, that path stuff is legit crazy. That means they believed it was Pernell’s path to be abducted, tortured, and in captivity. There is no deity or person on this PLANET or in other realms that will have me sitting back if that happens to you. No matter what your age is. Momma bear is coming in hot for you.” Sora chuckled, “That makes me feel quite loved. Which is confusing. It would not bother me if other Kitsunes left me to my paths.” I told her, “It would bother me that they didn’t care enough to come if they knew I was in trouble.” Sora replied, “We believe in paths.” So did I, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t help. I told mom, “Sora is quite happy with your reply but doesn’t understand why.” Mom muttered, “That makes Pernell’s reaction make sense. I was internally yelling at him to get mad at his dad for leaving him in captivity. It was so long. Honestly, I judged myself for keeping the clothes he left around when I thought he ghosted me.” Sora took over, “It was your path because you are our mother. You kept those things and now we have things of our Sire’s in our possession.” Mom admitted, “I used to wrap you up in his clothes. They definitely didn’t have his scent, but it made me feel like I connected you to him.” Sora replied, “You are a blessed human. I can see why Shiylo found you worthy.” Then let me take over. Mom sniffled, “Your kitsune wants me to cry.” I laughed, “I don’t think she does.” Mom asked, “Does Sora think that forest was real? I do.” I replied, “She said it was real.” Mom snorted, “Well, if that asshole thinks he can talk to my baby he’s got another thing coming.” Sora laughed, “I am more powerful than that old timer kitsune.” I asked, “You know he’s old?” Sora answered, “Yes, and evil.” I followed up, “Do you know his name?” Sora answered, “I do not.” I told mom, “Sora said we are more powerful and the guy is old.” Mom ground out, “If it’s your grandpa, I will eat him for LUNCH!” Sora chuckled, “Mom is most amusing.” I said, “He’s evil, whoever he is.” Mom replied, “I don’t think Pernell would call his father evil, even though I would. Not caring that your kid is captive no matter their age puts you firmly in the evil camp.” Mom paused then added, “Though I hold his entire family accountable and not just your grandfather for that. It sounded like they all knew he wasn’t just on his freedom trip.” Sora offered, “it’s a rite of passage.” Interesting. I asked her, “Do I have to rule the Kitsunes?” Sora answered, “No. They will naturally follow us if we meet one though.” Sure. That’s totally what I needed. Sora chuckled in my head. Mom said, “Well, that evil guy won’t touch you.”
