Independence.
It was startling to hear that word from his lips because he was wealthy, yet he wanted to become independent.
I was astounded to learn that, despite coming from such a wealthy household, an individual of his age desired freedom and independence in a foreign land. When he stated that he was seeking independence, I could sense the maturity and honesty in his words and statements. His candor and directness about his aims were really appreciated, and I recognized it as a reflection of his personality and character. I believe he was a self-driven, morally driven individual who was prepared to take and to make big risks in order to pursue his dreams of freedom and independence as well as to discover his own identity outside the family name.
