Chapter Five: The Omega quarters smelled like filth. The once-proud Lilith sat on the cold stone floor, her blonde hair tangled, her dress ripped. Her fingers trembled as she tried to lift the stale bread she had been given. Her hands were too weak. No one looked at her. No one spoke to her. She was nothing now. And she was starting to break. Lilith had been the perfect she-wolf once. Beautiful. Coveted. Powerful. Now, she was invisible. And it was all because of Selene. Rage twisted inside her. It burned. It festered. Selene had stolen everything. She had to pay. A dark smile curled on Lilith’s lips. Not yet. Not yet. --- Selene stood at the edge of the training grounds, watching as Darius leaned casually against a wooden post, his golden eyes gleaming with amusement. “Kill him.” Selene’s stomach twisted. The man before her—an Omega who had been caught stealing—was already on his knees, trembling. Selene’s fingers curled into fists. “This is a test.” Darius smirked. “Of course.” Selene gritted her teeth. “And if I refuse?” Darius tilted his head, eyes dark with something dangerous. “Then you fail me.” A sharp sting of something—panic? fear? longing?—shot through her. Fail him. Why did the thought make her chest feel hollow? Darius took a step closer, his heat swallowing her whole. “You want to be strong, don’t you?” he whispered. “You want them to fear you.” Selene’s throat tightened. “You want to stop feeling weak,” he murmured. “I can give you that.” His hand lifted, brushing against her cheek. His touch sent a shiver down her spine. He was intoxicating. He leaned in, lips almost grazing her ear. “But only if you listen.” Selene swallowed hard. The Omega on the ground whimpered, his body shaking. Darius stepped back, watching her like a predator. Waiting. Selene’s hand shook as she reached for the dagger at her hip. She wasn’t a killer. But the way Darius looked at her—**like she was something powerful, something dangerous, something his—**made her want to be. She tightened her grip on the blade. Her heart pounded. She took a step forward. Darius’s golden eyes burned with approval. Selene exhaled. And swung the knife. Blood splattered. The Omega gasped—then crumpled. Selene’s breath was ragged, her fingers shaking as she stared at the body. Darius chuckled. “Good girl.” Selene’s stomach twisted. Darius stepped behind her, his hands gripping her shoulders. “How does it feel?” Selene clenched her jaw. She should feel disgusted. But she didn’t. She felt strong. Darius’s fingers tightened. “You liked it.” Selene’s pulse pounded. Darius turned her to face him, his golden eyes devouring her. “I told you, little mate.” He brushed a strand of hair from her face, his touch almost tender. “You’re just like me.” Selene should deny it. But when Darius pulled her closer, when his breath brushed her lips, when his hands slid down her arms in a slow, possessive touch— She didn’t pull away. ---
