THE MAKING OF A QUEEN

Chapter Nine: The great hall was silent. The scent of blood was thick in the air, mixing with the charred meat on the feast table. The warmth of celebration had been replaced with something colder. Something sharper. Fear. Darius stood tall, his chest still rising and falling with the remnants of his fury. His golden eyes burned as he gazed down at Lilith’s lifeless, broken body. No one moved. No one dared to. Then, he spoke. “Let this be a warning.” His voice was smooth, deadly—a blade dipped in honey. Selene watched as the pack tensed. She should have felt sorry for them. She didn’t. Because tonight, they weren’t just looking at their Alpha King. They were looking at her. Darius grabbed Lilith’s corpse by the hair, dragging her through the blood-soaked floor before tossing her like discarded meat at the foot of his throne. “This,” he said, his voice echoing through the hall, “is what happens to those who touch what is mine.” Selene shivered. Not in fear. In something darker. Something thrilling. Darius turned to her then, his golden gaze locking onto hers. For a moment, no one else existed. Just them. His Queen. His ruin. Darius smirked. Then—he kneeled. Before her. A silent vow. The pack gasped. And then—they followed. One by one, every wolf in the hall lowered themselves to the ground, bowing before her. Selene’s breath caught. She felt it then—the shift. The power in the room had tilted toward her. Fear. Worship. She wasn’t just the Alpha King’s mate anymore. She was his Queen. And she would never be anything less again. --- Later That Night… Selene sat by the massive fireplace in Darius’s chambers, staring at the flames. Her hands still trembled—not from fear. From something else. Power was a wildfire. And she had just taken her first breath of smoke. A shadow loomed over her. Darius. She didn’t turn when he knelt beside her, his presence a heavy, inescapable force. “You liked it,” he murmured. Selene swallowed hard. Darius tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze. His golden eyes searched her. Then, he smiled. Selene exhaled sharply. Because she knew. He had won. And she wasn’t sure she cared anymore. ---
