She had been astonished at what she had seen.
“You are doubtless curious,” he had said in his hard businesslike voice, “as to how your money will be spent. So come with me and I will show you.”
It meant rising very early because the men worked best in the cool of the day and before the sun became so hot.
As she climbed up the side of the mountain, she thought, if nothing else, it was a new experience.
