Chapter 10

All eyes were fixed on Venidith, her appearance transformed from a battered and injured state to one that resembled a person fresh out of a salon. Her cuts and bruises had miraculously disappeared, leaving behind flawless and unmarred skin. As she got off the table, a confident smirk played on her lips, and her captivating eyes locked onto mine. "Oh my, I thought you wouldn't have the nerve," Venidith said with a hint of playful mischief in her voice. She winked at me, a suggestive gesture that sent a wave of mixed emotions through me. I tried to brush off her advances, reminding her of the situation. "I only healed you because you saved us," I responded, my tone tinged with a mixture of gratitude and caution. "It would be wise for you to rest and allow yourself to recover." Her disappointment was palpable as she pouted and pointed accusingly at me. "What? That's impossible! I am the primordial demon of lust!" Venidith protested, a mix of frustration and longing in her voice. "You should be under my spell, yearning to caress and kiss me." Gustav, seemingly unfazed by Venidith's charm, yawned nonchalantly. "Sorry to burst your bubble," he said dismissively. "But it seems your seductive powers don't work on him. Better luck next time, I suppose." "What? That's impossible! I am the primordial demon of lust!" Venidith pouted, frustration evident in her voice as she pointed an accusatory finger at me. "You should be under my spell, yearning to caress and kiss me!" I scoffed, amused by her presumption. "Already did without the kissing," I retorted, Juliette, always the voice of reason, interjected. "Venidith, it's no use. There must be something unique about Alexander that resists your powers." Gustav, eager to move things along, brushed off the dramatics. "Save the drama for later," he said, walking towards the door. "You two, follow me. And Alexander, go get changed." "Alright," I replied, giving Venidith a reassuring smile as I started making my way towards the armory. But before I could take another step, Venidith grabbed hold of my shoulder, stopping me in my tracks. Her touch sent a jolt of electricity through me, and I turned to face her, curious about what she had to say. I turned around to face Venidith, taking in her appearance. The tattered rags she wore barely covered her body, revealing her perfect figure that could rival that of a model. Her smooth hands gently held onto my arms, her touch surprisingly gentle. With a sigh, I asked, "What is it?" Venidith's expression softened, and her words lacked any trace of her usual seductive intent. "Please, don't leave me for too long, okay?" she said, a genuine smile gracing her lips. I couldn't help but notice the change in her eyes. They no longer held the usual lustful allure but instead conveyed genuine concern and a hint of tears. It was as if beneath her demon exterior, she harbored deep-seated fear and desperation, afraid of being abandoned. Nodding in understanding, I reassured her, "I'm just going to drop off my gear at the armory. I won't be gone for too long." Despite her centuries-old existence, it seemed that Venidith still craved reassurance and connection. Venidith released her grip on my arm and took a step back. "Remember, I am older than your planet," she said, a touch of wistfulness in her voice. With that, she turned and walked away, joining the others who were waiting. We went our separate ways, and I made my way towards the armory. As I walked down the hallway, I couldn't help but notice the significant changes. The air felt cooler, thanks to the upgraded ventilation and air conditioning systems. The steel walls gleamed, free of any signs of rust. It was clear that the robots had been diligently maintaining the area. Reaching the armory, I was greeted by a sight that caught me off guard. The once ordinary iron door had been replaced with a sleek, sliding steel door equipped with a high-tech face recognition camera. I approached the door, and as if sensing my presence, it smoothly slid open. Standing there, leaning against the door, was Sam, the brown-eyed kid I had taken under my wing. She was in the process of removing her gear, dressed in red shorts and a white t-shirt. The words "One Man Army" were boldly emblazoned on the shirt in a military-style font, reminiscent of the Uncle Sam recruitment posters from the United States. Sam turned around and noticed me staring. "Oh, big brother, you already helped Venidith?" she asked, placing the helmet on the table. "Yeah, she's alright now," I replied, walking into the armory. "You've done a fantastic job on the mission." I unfastened the straps of my vest, letting it fall off, revealing the extent of the damage inflicted by the false demon. My hoodie had been torn to shreds, and my lower abdomen was adorned with scars that stretched from my lower thighs up to my right chest. "It was worse than I expected," I said, dropping the vest onto the floor. I pondered the strange phenomenon. How had my vest managed to survive while my hoodie was completely destroyed? As I examined my body, I realized that if it hadn't been for Juliette's healing, I would have been on the brink of death. "That's very weird, big brother," Sam remarked, narrowing her eyes and peering at my vest. "Why are there closed eyelids on your vest?" "What?" I muttered, my eyes fixed on the peculiar vest. As I examined the vest more closely, its overwhelming black color caught my attention. At first glance, it appeared to be a regular vest, but upon closer inspection, I noticed something unusual. There, in the middle portion of the vest, was a pair of closed eyelids embroidered. Could this be a side effect of Juliette's blessing? To my astonishment, the eyelids on the vest began to squirm and move. "Who disturbed my slumber," a voice echoed from the vest. "What the hell," I exclaimed, taken aback. "Who are you?" The eyelids suddenly opened, revealing a pair of unique eyes. The sclera was pure white, the iris completely black, devoid of any pupils, and adorned with Japanese Kanji. The eyes scanned the surroundings, as if searching for someone. Then, they locked onto me, staring directly into my soul. "So you are my master," it said, its voice calm and relaxed. Suddenly, the creature started to undergo a transformation, as if melting into a liquefied state, only to slowly reform into a humanoid shape. It began with the feet, followed by the legs, abdomen, chest, shoulders, arms, hands, and fingers. I glanced beside me and saw Sam engrossed in writing in her notebook. Returning my gaze to the creature... Now standing on two legs, it had fully transformed into a human form. Its height matched that of Sam's, but it possessed a more muscular physique, appearing to be in perfect shape. "I have taken on the appropriate form of a human," it explained. "I shall protect you, for I am a part of you." "What?" I muttered, trying to comprehend the situation. "To clarify, you were originally my vest?" It nodded, affirming my statement. "Yes... I was." "Where did you come from?" I asked, circling around the humanoid as it followed my movements, always keeping its head and body facing me. It stumbled slightly on its feet. "Whoa, be careful," Sam intervened, catching the humanoid before it could fall. "Thank you," it acknowledged, its attention still fixed on me. "Let's go," I suggested, taking hold of the humanoid's hands. They felt human-like, yet with a roughness akin to steel wool. "I think we should join the others," I continued, glancing at the humanoid. Its unique Kanji eyes continued to captivate my attention. Despite its unusual appearance, with black hair that possessed an intriguing beauty, it simply resembled an ordinary child. "Okay big bro, lead the way," Sam said, confidently holding the humanoid's hands. Sam's accepting nature, disregarding the fact that the humanoid's hands were once a vest, was a refreshing contrast to the cruelty often found in this world. Together, we made our way towards the control room. The hallway appeared tidier than before, a testament to the meticulous maintenance efforts. As we turned a corner, I noticed that the control room's door had been reinforced, now a sturdy sliding door. "Seems like they've added extra protection," I commented, observing the door as we approached. With a silent boom, the steel door smoothly slid open, revealing a surprised Gustav, a pale-faced Juliette, and Venidith enjoying a popsicle while comfortably seated in a chair. "Oh no... I think," Juliette said, her voice filled with nervousness as she glanced at the humanoid. "What? How come you keep bringing in people all of a sudden?" Gustav questioned, his yawn indicating his slight annoyance at the situation. I looked at the bewildered faces of Gustav and Juliette, realizing that I had introduced yet another unexpected character into our already eventful journey.
