Richard’s POV
“Let’s move!” I told my Alex as I relaxed in my car. The car moved off slowly. I took a deep breath and looked at the surroundings.
“You took a long time, sir,” Alex told me carefully. He was trying to start up a conversation even though I was always uninterested in his chit-chat. Alex was my personal assistant and he obviously did everything for me. Being the CEO of a conglomerate company wasn’t an easy job. I was a billionaire myself.
“That little girl has a sharp mouth…” I said slowly.
“Shall I send some guys to teach her a lesson?” Alex asked me carefully. On hearing this, I smacked the back of his head.
“Ah!” he exclaimed. “If you keep this up, sir, we might end up in an accident. Refrain from hitting me when I’m driving.”
“You don’t get to tell me what to do,” I replied coldly. “Also, you should never propose hurting women and children. It’s against my ethics. Plus, I’m not a mafia boss, am I? Why do you need to hurt everyone who steps on my toes? I hate it!”
“I am sorry, sir. I thought you were badly insulted and…” Alex was saying.
“Focus on your driving!” I shunned him. “Park the car as well and get off.”
Alex found a reasonable place to park and when he did, he got off the driver’s seat and I took over.
“Find out everything about that girl. Meet me at my mansion after. I am going there directly,” I replied calmly. Without waiting for his reply, I drove off. I enjoyed seeing his angry look whenever I ditched him on the road. This was nice to see.
Okay, intro time!
No, just find out by yourself. I drove to the mansion and when I parked the car, I moved inside quickly. Some maids saw me moving and they bowed out of respect. I got to the sitting room and my mother was there. She was watching a family show on TV as usual.
“Hi!” I told her.
“Hello!” she replied and resumed her viewing.
Even though we were allegedly mother and son, we spoke in monosyllables. She never used to be like that actually. The truth is, I was an adopted son. When my adopted father and mother could not make a baby after a long period of their marriage, I was adopted. Six years after I was adopted, Mia was born. She was their biological child.
I was raised with no issues but since she had a child, my mother, Victoria, kept her distance from me. I was no longer her only hope. She claimed I could hurt her child, Mia.
Everything broke apart when my father died. According to his will, I succeeded as the company’s CEO after his death. Of course, Victoria went livid. She claimed it was supposed to be her daughter, Mia. I couldn’t blame her actually. Even still, she went too far.
“Big bro!” I heard Mia’s soprano voice as soon as I entered my room. I smiled as she clung to me. She was always playful like this. Unlike her mother, Mia was kind.
“How are you doing, ugly girl?” I asked her playfully. I had always called her ‘ugly’ since she was a mere kid. She had big cheeks and she was fat then. Even now that she was a beautiful twenty-two year old lady, I still addressed her as ‘ugly’.
“Stop calling me that!” Mia frowned. I shrugged and started to sort the items in my briefcase. “You should join me for lunch though. I made the meal.”
“But with the assistance of the chef…” I smiled.
“A little assistance!” Mia exclaimed.
“Then it means you just gave the meal idea. The chef did the cooking, didn’t she?” I asked her suspiciously.
“s**t! When will I learn to fool you, big bro?” Mia started to laugh. I knew her already, like the lines on my palm.

I received Alex’s report late in the evening and I spent the whole night looking at her.
Her name was Bella Brooks and she was also adopted into her family. She was an orphan, twice. Both her biological and adopted parents all died. It would be quite traumatic for her. She had no social media accounts and blogs. All she likely did with her phone was to call.
That was strange and I found it hard to believe.
I spent the whole night looking at her picture. Her beautiful face was captivating. How could such a beautiful lady be so blunt with her words? It was too worrisome for me.
Jeez.

“Are you suffering from a hangover? You look ruined!” Alex exclaimed when he came to pick me up in the morning.
“Just shut up,” I told him solemnly.
I got into the car and he did too.
“I need some coffee,” I told him slowly.
“Then I will get some for you when we…” Alex told me shortly.
“No,” I interrupted. “Just drive to that strange cafe.”
“You got no coffee there yesterday, sir. Why would you go there again?” Alex asked inquisitively. I stared at him deeply and on sighting my gaze, he turned on the car and drove off.
I still had the ability of getting him scared without saying a word.

On getting there, I watched some gangsters enter the cafe. I was still in the car and I watched them calmly. They seemed to be discussing with her, then they started to scatter different things in the cafe.
“You didn’t do what I never sent you to do, did you?” I asked Alex carefully.
“Never. The thugs weren’t sent by me. Shall I send them off?” he replied.
“No, let’s watch them! It seems to be an interesting drama…” I gazed at the thugs as they destroyed the cafe’s property.
