Chapter 3
Tsk, it’s so annoying.
I was walking at the roadside, eyes fixed on the ground while kicking every rock I see on the way. I have to release this frustration. My mouth is zipped but in my mind runs a hundred of questions.
What can I do? Is it my fault that anxiety attacks me every time I'm in the crowd? Why won't they understand?
I angrily kicked the rock laying steady in front of me.
"Ouch!"
A voice?
I tilted my head up and found an elderly woman sitting a few meters away from me. Oh no! What have I done!
I hurriedly stride towards her. “Grandma? Are you okay? Where did the stone hit you? Did it bruise?"
I was being hysterical but I heaved a sigh upon seeing the old lady smile. Whoa! My conscience won’t let me sleep if I have hurt someone due to my negligence. I was so careless. I began to lecture myself mentally.
"Oh, don’t worry child. It just hit my knee," she said.
"For a moment I thought you are badly injured. I’m really sorry. Let me massage it for a moment," I suggested and kneeled down to take her left feet and placed it on my hips. I massaged it gently.
"I’m a beautiful fairy."
"No! I should be that dairy."
"Hey, no need to argue. Both of you are fairies while I am the witch. Is that okey?"
I instantly shifted my gaze to where the noise is coming from. Three children are playing outside their homes.
"Hey!” I called their attention. The girl wearing a red dress turned her gaze at me. Slowly, she walked towards to where I am.
"Yes, older sister?" she asked.
"What are you playing? About fairies and things? Why don't you play robots instead, they are real," I told her. Now, the child was giving me a blank stare. She was puzzled at the moment.
"But, fairies and magical creatures are better,” she replied.
"Really? Who told you that?" I said again.
"My mother did. She even told me that witches are true. They take bad children who don’t obey their parents. Giants are true, too!” she exclaimed. Tsk, this child, her parents have planted a lie at her young mind. Everyone knows that magic doesn’t exist.
"You see? Those are just creatures that your parents made up to scare you. So you will be obedient to them. They are not true! Believe me. Now, get back to your friends and tell them what I have said to you,” I said. She immediately turned her back and ran towards her playmates.
I let out a satisfied smile. I just felt happy thinking that I’ve help that young child come to realization. She must understand things as early as now so she can be ready to face the real world soon. I am just saving her from the disappointment.
I was still beaming when I returned my focus on the foot I am massaging.
"Ah, anything wrong, grandma?" I asked upon seeing her looking intently at me. Her temple creased.
"Child, why did you tell that to that little girl?"
"Huh? Is it bad, Grandma? It was just the right thing to say. Those creatures came from people’s mind who are too imaginative," I replied. There are no facts behind it, only suspicions and stories. No concrete evidences and just experiences. Who knows? It might be only a made up scenario that were taken seriously by some humans.
"Tsk, tsk, I can’t do anything about your beliefs, but always take care. You never know who is listening at the moment. Not everything is visible through the eyes.”
I think Grandma is trying to scare me but it won’t work. I am a science fan, remember?
"When I see them face to face, that is where I’ll believe” I stated. She made no attempt to argue and just gave me a nod.
"I think you have to go now. Judging from what you are wearing, you are heading to school. Time is running and you might get late," Grandma said. Upon hearing her words, I immediately stood up. Oh my! I almost forgot. I need to run now.
“Oh no, I have to go now, Grandma. I’m really sorry, again. Till we meet next time.” I waved goodbye and started dashing off. I have to make it before the school gate closes. They are a bit strict when it comes to late students. I glanced at my watch, a few more minutes before eight, I really have to run faster.
I could now see our school. Come on feet, move faster. I am almost there, just a coupIe of meters away. I could see the gates being closed slowly. Oh no! oh no!
"Wait!" I shouted and used my hand to stop the gate from finally closing. Oh yes, I made it. Congrats to me!
"Ah, you still made it. But you cut it short, only a minute before eight," the guard said. He let me in and I grasp for air. I just did a marathon back there. Now I know I could join contest like that. I might have the chance of winning. I breathed again, feels like my lungs was lost for air.
And I could feel my knees trembling now. I decided to sit at the bench for a moment to restore my strength. After a while, I went inside my room.
Well, what more should I expect? Same irritating faces.
"Here comes Myrrel, the perfectionist."
"Did you say selfish?"
"Yeah, you heard that right?"
See? What is there in school that I should feel excited about? I ignored those whispers and took my seat. Our teacher is not yet in that’s why my so very normal classmates are scattered everywhere. Alya, the self-proclaimed queen of the school is standing at the doorway, talking with her friends. Last year, when I transferred here, they approached me first saying that I fit to be part of their group since I’m pretty, too. I was fine with it until I grew tired of being their source of answer and as well as super assistant every time they go shopping.
Cleiv, our escort because he was deemed to be handsome and cool was throwing papers at everyone. I’m really sick of this same old scene every day. We are at school to study and not to make noise like they were in some market. I opened my book instead and started reading, in this way, I spend my time wisely.
“Our teacher is coming!” Marvin shouted. Among us here, he was the most bully and was always the one getting punished for disobeying our teachers. My classmates begun to find their seats and acted like an angel as soon as our teacher entered. Wow, what a great talent.
Time flew fast and it was already lunch time. I was currently eating my food but I can’t finish it. I’m not feeling well. My head is dizzy and I’m noxious. When I can’t take it anymore, I approached my teacher for permission to go home. She said yes.
I fixed my things and started walking home. I don't know why but every time I step I felt heavy. But I keep on walking even though I felt a bit weird. All I want is to get home and sleep.
I’m already nearing home and was currently crossing the streets. It was just odd, I could hear someone shouting. I looked around and saw people looking at me with worried faces. Huh? I looked back, and saw a fast car approaching towards me. At the moment, my mind has processed what is about to happen. Am I going to die? Why am I feeling numb? My heart is beating fast. Is this how it feels when you are about to lose life? But what is this? There is nothing I see but a blue smoke. Until I breath my last and lost consciousness.
