Rose cursed as she saw the now-familiar high cliffs of the island citadel rise before her. Locked in the stern cabin with her hands tied behind her back, Joe had said nothing, but his eyes said everything. She was glad Annaliese was there, though the girl studiously ignored her, spending most of the time on the radio. She felt tired, hungry, and seasick, made worse by the yacht’s precarious wobbling as they entered the small harbour. She had to get a message to Guy but how, everything she had tried had failed and she began to feel the spectre of defeat.
