Venice
The dark night was filled with foreboding for Guy as he struggled with a rush of emotions, cradling the drugged shape of Rose in his arms. Thomas Mann’s Death in Venice and the haunting Mahler symphony from the film came into his head as he willed her to respond. “Rose, can you hear me?”
“Yes,” she whispered, “don’t worry, it will wear off, they brought me here yesterday, a flight with the journalist Zelda, held in the caves in Gibraltar.”
“Gibraltar…”
“In the caves under the rock all heavily disguised, I have a signed statement from the girls which we can use in evidence, it’s their centre of European operations for Project Valkyrie,” she whispered as she held Guy tight, “it’s been a long week since I left you at Almeria.”
