Grenada - Grenadines
The sun shone harshly across the bay, amplifying the effect of Fort George Castle overlooking the harbour. The island itself, like many in the region, had changed hands rapidly in the past centuries and the old fort had seen a great deal of action, primarily between successive French and British fleets. More recently in 1984 it had been centre stage when the island’s Prime Minister had been gunned down by rebels aligned to the communists, sparking an invasion by President Reagan. Signs of the invasion in the Eighties’ were still clear on the older houses, where graffiti daubed the walls.
