Chapter 12 S tacy My day at work was far from uneventful. Ray had not been joking about being hands-on. He was around me—and a few other employees—for most of the day. It wasn’t overbearing, but there was something about the boss being within earshot that wasn’t the best work environment. Still, I knew what I was doing. By the end of the day, I was sure that I had cemented my spot in the gallery. I peeked at the time before reaching my car. As soon as I entered, I put the keys in the ignition and tried to start the vehicle. It roared to life for all three seconds before dying again. I tried one more time, but I didn’t even get the signature revving of the engine. “f**k!” I groaned, hitting the steering wheel. The sound from the horn jolted me upright, further adding to the annoyance
