Simple Games

Chapter 3

The last bell rang and instead of heading home I headed to the club room.

Our club room wasn't the computer lab. In fact we asked the teachers for one of the unused rooms on the second floor of the school since they were big enough and no one would mess with them.

We have a tv with a ps4 and an Xbox360 and a few computers for those who didn't have their own laptop. Everyone brought their own games but sometimes the club would get together and buy games for the whole group.

There was even a couch there and a place that held some food and drinks. Whatever people would buy and bring in here.

By the time I got to the club room our leader was already in there playing the ps4 and another member who I didn't really know. Here name was Sarah and all she ever really did was sit in here and stay on here laptop. She was a freshman who only seemed to be in this club to stay away from people. It was a small club anyway.

I set my bag down in the corner I usually set it in and sat next to our leader, Ashley. She was the kind of person who looked like a cheerleader and even acted like one just a bit. She had blonde hair and a fit body that seemed like she was in gymnastics. Her attitude was always positive and her enthusiasm was unbearable. But for a leader she was determined and right for the job. It just seemed odd she was so into video games.

She got to a stopping point in her game and paused it.

"Hey Jessica. Andrew will be a little late so it's just us today."

Right after she said that Ian came in and sat at the table in the middle of the room.

"Plus me."

I looked at him actually surprised he came. It was an odd sight but also common. It was like he belonged here anyway.

"Glad you could show up, Ian," Ashley said as she obliterated the final boss.

"Glad I came in on time to witness that."

"I know right? I think that was my best fight yet on any of the games I've done."

I looked at her with a bit of a sarcastic face, raising an eyebrow.

"What that one game you binged through a couple months ago? What was it? One of the Final Fantasies, right?"

She started nodding her head and then pointed to me, shaking it with her head.

"Your right, I remember that. That was an amazing fight. Three minutes top."

We started laughing remembering the moment she just murdered the last boss without hesitating.

Ian rolled his eyes.

"For a couple of girls, you guys are really weird."

"Too bad you're stuck with us," Ashley said as she tried to skip the end credits.

Ian shrugged his shoulder and then brought out his phone as he got comfortable in a chair at the table in the middle of the room.

"So what are we doing? I mean, I know I showed up but I would like to keep this to a minimum."

I walked over to him and nudged his arm.

"Aw, you know you love coming here."

He reacted to my touch a little oddly but brushed it off like nothing. I did the same.

Ashley got up and walked over to her book bag, I assumed to get her laptop.

"Why not just play around on the game to sharpen our skills? There's no such thing as too much practice."

"That sounds like a good idea," I answered going back to get my laptop.

We both looked at Ian as he just sat there scrolling through some random site.

"Are you going to join us, Ian?" Ashley asked as she set up the sever.

"I can just do this at home."

He got up and started heading out.

"I'll join you guys in like thirty minutes."

And just like that he left.

I looked at Ashley as she looked at me. We sat in silence for a minute before she turned over and looked at Sarah.

"Hey Sarah, do you mind joining us?"

She looked up from her laptop and pulled off her headphones.

"Why not," is all she said before slipping her headphones back on and then clicked around as if getting to the game.

I smiled at Ashley as she smiled back while setting up the sever.

"Okay. Games up and running. Sent you guys a request."

I looked at my laptop seeing a notification clicking on it getting into the sever.

"All right, I'm in."

Then I saw another name pop up and knew it was Sarah.

Ashley smiled and put on her own headphones. I followed and got comfortable.

"All right. Lets at least speed through the first twenty levels. Then we can do unlimited."

I nodded my head and the next thing I knew, the game was loading.

Lets get this game over and done.
