CHAPTER 6: FACING FEARS
The day Janela moved into Mason's house was one filled with excitement and a tinge of nostalgia. She had spent the previous week packing up her apartment, reminiscing about the memories she’d made there. It was a bittersweet process, but knowing she was starting a new chapter with Mason made it all worthwhile.
Mason was there to help her move, their laughter and teamwork turning what could have been a stressful day into a fun and fulfilling experience. By the time they had everything unpacked and set up in their new home, they were both exhausted but happy.
"Welcome home," Mason said, pulling Janela into a tight embrace as they stood in their newly arranged living room.
Janela smiled up at him, her heart full. "It feels perfect, Mason. Like this is exactly where I’m meant to be."
---
Settling into their new life together was an adventure in itself. They discovered small quirks about each other, like Mason's habit of leaving his socks all over the place and Janela's tendency to reorganize the kitchen every few days. These little quirks became endearing parts of their daily routine, bringing them closer together.
One evening, as they were cooking dinner together, Mason turned to Janela with a thoughtful expression. "There’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately."
Janela looked up from chopping vegetables. "What is it?"
"I’ve been thinking about my career and where I want to go next. I’ve realized that I’ve been playing it safe for too long. I want to take a leap, start my own business," Mason said, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
Janela felt a surge of pride. "That’s amazing, Mason! What kind of business are you thinking about?"
"I’ve always had a passion for sustainable architecture. I want to start a firm that focuses on eco-friendly designs and innovations," he explained.
Janela's face lit up. "That sounds incredible. I believe you’ll be great at it."
Mason smiled, squeezing her hand. "I hope so. It’s a big risk, but I feel ready for it."
---
As Mason began to plan his new venture, Janela found herself reflecting on her own career. She loved her job, but she also felt a stirring desire to explore new challenges. Inspired by Mason's courage, she began to consider her own dreams and aspirations.
One afternoon, as they were taking a walk in the park, Janela broached the subject. "Mason, I’ve been thinking about my career too. I love my job, but I feel like I’m ready for something more. I’ve always wanted to start my own interior design business."
Mason stopped walking and turned to her, his eyes filled with admiration. "Janela, that’s fantastic! You have such an eye for design, and I know you’d be amazing at it."
Janela smiled, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension. "It’s a big step, and I’m not sure where to start."
"We’ll figure it out together," Mason said, taking her hand. "I believe in you, Janela."
---
The next few months were a whirlwind of activity as they both pursued their dreams. Mason threw himself into the planning and development of his architecture firm, while Janela started laying the groundwork for her interior design business. They supported each other through the highs and lows, their love and partnership growing stronger with each passing day.
One evening, as they were sitting on the porch watching the stars, Mason turned to Janela with a serious expression. "There’s something I need to talk to you about."
Janela's heart skipped a beat. "What is it, Mason?"
"It’s about Emily. She’s been reaching out more frequently, and I think she’s struggling with our separation. I want to make sure she’s okay, but I also don’t want it to affect us," he said, his voice filled with concern.
Janela took a deep breath, trying to process her emotions. "I understand, Mason. It’s important that she finds closure and support, but it’s also important for us to maintain healthy boundaries."
Janela nodded, relief in his eyes. "I agree. I’ll talk to her and make sure she has the support she needs, but I’ll also make it clear that my priority is our relationship."
Janela smiled, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. "Thank you, Mason. I appreciate your honesty and your commitment to us."
---
As they navigated these new challenges, Janela and Mason continued to build their life together. They celebrated small victories, like the first client for Mason's firm and the launch of Janela's business website. They also faced setbacks, but their unwavering support for each other helped them overcome every obstacle.
One rainy afternoon, as they were working side by side in their home office, Mason looked over at Janela with a mischievous grin. "I have a surprise for you."
Janela looked up, intrigued. "What is it?"
Mason reached into his desk drawer and pulled out two plane tickets. "I thought we could use a getaway. A little break from all the chaos."
Janela's eyes widened with delight. "Where are we going?"
"Paris," Mason said, his grin widening. "I thought we could use some inspiration from the city of love."
Tears of joy filled Janela's eyes as she hugged him tightly. "Mason, that’s amazing. I’ve always wanted to go to Paris."
---
Their trip to Paris was a dream come true. They spent their days exploring the city, visiting museums, and indulging in delicious food. The beauty and romance of Paris provided the perfect backdrop for their growing love and renewed dreams.
One evening, as they were walking along the Seine, Mason stopped and turned to Janela, his expression serious yet tender. "Janela, there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you."
Janela's heart raced. "What is it, Mason?"
He took her hands in his, looking deeply into her eyes. "Janela, you’ve brought so much joy and love into my life. You’ve stood by me through everything, and I can’t imagine my future without you. Will you marry me?"
Janela's breath caught in her throat as tears of happiness filled her eyes. "Yes, Mason. Yes, I’ll marry you."
They embraced, their hearts filled with love and promise. The journey they had started together was far from over, but they were ready to face whatever came their way, hand in hand.
