Emily woke up feeling shockingly chilly. Her brain pulsed, her limbs felt heavy, and the surroundings whirled. Her eyesight was blurry and foggy; she blinked carefully, trying to concentrate. Her hands, chained behind her back, were raw from the great pressure. They were rigid. Her heart went black, and as she looked around she knew she was no longer in the alley. The area was dark, with long shadows created over the cold, concrete walls by the weak flutter of one overhead light. She was sitting on a harsh metal chair, her ankles bound to the legs, therefore preventing movement. The only sound was the steady, rhythmic trickling of water some distance away; the air smelt musty and wet, like an ancient cellar. Her heart hammered as the mist in her head started to dissipate.
