The snarl of the beast resonated over the collapsing chamber walls, its brilliant red eyes cutting like twin flames across the darkness. It was huge; its terrible structure locked Liam and Ava within the old ruins by blocking the only escape. Every stride of it shook the earth, dragging dirt and trash from above, and the heat it radiated made the air seem heavy. Liam's heart sped. Though he tightened his hold on Ava's hand, dragging her closer, the terror coursed through him nearly paralysing. We have to relocate. We cannot remain here, he said, almost able to keep the terror from his voice. Ava glanced at the monster, her brilliant eyes somewhat darkening from tiredness. Something in her demeanour caught Liam's attention; it was a feeling that straddles between terror and awareness.
