Ch 8 Ryan's POV

907 Words
I was sitting in my office going through my work when my office door swings open, slamming into the wall behind it and in comes Cole, furious. “DO YOU KNOW WHAT WOLF CUT TIES LAST NIGHT!” He screamed as he got into my face. “WELL, DO YOU?!” he asked, and I could smell bourbon on his breath. “No alpha, I mean I felt it, but no.” I replied trying to remain calm even though I felt anger boil inside of me. “It was the witch’s child, now I might have to start a war for her at that ceremony.” Cole says no longer yelling but in a low growl tone. “Let me talk to the alpha and maybe I can work something out with her or maybe the hybrid will come back if she knows the alpha wants to marry her, I mean who would refuse an alpha.” I was rambling off suggestions, anything to avoid attacking blood river. They are a powerful pack, and they could easily wipe us off the map plus I want to go to the ceremony because of my dream, I am hoping to meet my mate. “Very well, we will hold off for now and see what is to come of this.” He says calmer now and headed out of my office. I got up to close my door and decided to call the Blood River Alpha to see what I can learn. While my cell phone rings, I pace my office. “Beta Ryan, nice to see your number on my phone once again,” Alpha Reign teased. “Hello Alpha, sorry I just couldn’t resist after how you left our last conversation.” I replied with a smile on my face even though she couldn’t see me. “Smooth talker, are we?” she asked lightheartedly, “Okay, on a serious note, what do you want?” I laughed, “Alright you caught me, part of me wanted to just hear your sweet voice again. However, the other part of me would like to know if you have the wolf hybrid in your ranks now. I mean I’m not one to intrude on pack business, but my alpha is worried about it.” “Beta Ryan, as you know it is not completely uncommon for a person to choose a new pack when they have their wolf. I mean many of them wait until they have a mate from another pack, but you should know I didn’t twist her arm over this. She asked me, and I couldn’t turn her away.” Reign replied, “Can I be completely transparent with you for a moment beta?” she asked. “Yes, please I value honesty,” I said genuinely. “I don’t mean to stir trouble in your pack, but Nessa doesn’t feel safe there.” Reign replies and I take note of how quickly she has grown close to this hybrid; she has even given her a nickname. “Thank you for your honesty, Alpha. I will look into this matter personally,” I said “Oh, please beta call me Reign, after all if we’re going to talk like this on a regular basis, I think we can rid ourselves of formalities.” She responded and I couldn’t help the smile that formed on my lips, she is so boldly flirting with me. “Call me Ryan, please and for the record I would be flattered if we spoke on a regular basis like this. It has definitely added a little something to my day,” I reply as my smile gets bigger even though I thought it was impossible. “I need to get back to work but maybe next time you can call me?” I teased “Maybe…” she said "bye for now, Ryan," she finished. Then hung up and I could feel butterflies fluttering in my stomach. I sat in one of the chairs in front of my desk, leaned back and just smiled and took a moment to recount the conversation in my head. After, I put my phone back in my pocket and sat at my desk. A new thought crossed my mind, I couldn’t tell my alpha that Reign and Vanessa were close and that she wouldn’t leave but I had to tell him something. He will somehow find out I spoke with Reign; I am sure of it. I know he has spies that occasionally listen in at my door and that he checks my call logs online. I will simply tell him I spoke with Reign and that Vanessa doesn’t feel safe here and leave it at that, that should work. I reached out to Cole through mind link. “Yes Ryan?” he asked in an obviously irritated voice, but I ignored it with the hopes of him being happier with my information. “I spoke with the Alpha at Blood River, and she informed me that Vanessa no longer feels safe here and that’s why she is there.” “So maybe she will feel safe again once married to an alpha,” Cole responds, “Good work.” He then immediately cut the link and that was that. I was now left to sit and wonder if I did the right thing by saying anything at all, what would happen now?
