I am standing in my office looking out the window just trying to calm myself, how could those wolves let me down? I am an Alpha for god’s sake. The last thing I want is to go to war with Blood River over that pathetic excuse for a wolf, but her mother won’t mate with me until she has her first born child.
I feel a pull in the mind link from my beta, “Yes, Ryan?” I ask making no effort to conceal my irritability.
“I spoke with the Alpha at Blood River, and she informed me that Vanessa no longer feels safe here and that’s why she’s there.” Ryan says and I feel some of my irritability fade, maybe I can change her mind.
“So maybe she will feel safe again once married to an alpha,” I responded in effort to hide the real reasons I need the hybrid, “Good work.” I say and then I immediately cut the link and dig my cell phone out of my pocket. I dial Tabitha’s number on my phone and wait while it rings.
“Hello darling, please tell me you have some good news for me,” she said, and I take a deep breath.
“Yes and no,” I responded, and she remains silent waiting for me to elaborate. “The rouges I hired did not get your daughter, but my overachieving nephew has called the pack where your daughter ran off to and has informed me that she ran off because she doesn’t feel safe here.”
“How is that good news? Why doesn’t she feel safe?”
“It’s good news because I will bring her back under the guise of marrying her so she will feel safe in the arms of an alpha. And honestly dear she probably doesn’t feel safe because you insisted, I hire rouges to take her for me and the damn idiots screwed it up!” I say probably snippier than I should have.
“Now, now, alpha that’s no way to speak to your future wife. If you want to fulfill the prophecy and have the powerful babies as foretold, then you will play ball.”
“You won’t be my wife, at least not in the traditional sense. You'll just a means to an end, a baby factory so to speak, and you keep telling me that you can help me fulfill the prophecy, but I don’t see how witch.” I replied in disgust.
“You weren’t complaining so much when I let you between my legs the last time you were here,” she said taunting me.
“You hadn’t made demands then,” I growled at her.
“I had to give you a taste dear, I had to get you where I wanted you” Tabitha replied and then she sighs. “Look I know you are worried about my pedigree, and I understand why but you don’t need to be, the thing is my mom seduced an alpha to have me, I am a hybrid. You see we want the same thing here; my mom started all of this intentionally she wanted her grandkids to fulfill the prophecy but for a long time I resisted her and refused to do what she wanted. Knowing my mom wanted grandkids I seduced Vanessa’s dad, intentionally making sure he wasn’t an alpha.”
Things started to click in my mind, “You intentionally thwarted her plans,” I reply somewhat confident. “What made you change your mind? Why was Vanessa taken from you to begin with? And lastly why do you want her back?” I asked needing answers before I was willing to go further down this rabbit hole of madness.
“When my mom died a few years ago I learned the rest of the prophecy, I learned that my kids would have been extremely powerful as wolves alone and adding our witch bloodline well that would create something entirely different. The original prophecy takes two wolves of the alpha bloodline to have babies of special abilities, but the trick here is that they must be fated mates however my mom found a way to take the beautiful prophecy and corrupt it. See witches can choose their mates but wolves cannot, by making the prophecy into hybrids…” she paused and I put the pieces together in my head as she resumed her monolog, “you can only imagine the power they will have, and they won’t be restricted to the moon goddess’ will.”
“And about Vanessa,” I prompted her to go further.
“Vanessa was taken from me because I was thought to be as good as dead, they didn’t expect me to live. My mom attacked me to try to kill the baby inside of me, she knew I would live because of my wolf. She was furious with me because she had learned I lied to her about Vanessa’s father. Vanessa however survived the attack though I don’t know how. When I woke up in the hospital my baby was gone, I assumed dead at the time and my wolf was gone too. I assumed my wolf would recover and eventually come back to me, but she never did. And I now know the hospital staff was able to save my baby and got ahold of her dad to come take her with the help of my mom, again something I learned after her death. As for the reason I am desperate to have my daughter back,” She continued. “Just like with alpha wolves the first born is special; for you it is because you need an heir to take your place, for witches it is because a first-born witch has more raw untapped power and without help to master it who knows what might happen, especially now with her wolf. When I was her age, after I got my wolf, my emotions were heightening and I was a ticking time bomb. She needs me, she needs to learn control over the powers she holds. Without control she could hurt someone,” She finished a I didn’t know what to say.
“Thank you for finally being transparent with me, and for the warning to handle your daughter with caution as I continue this mission to bring her home to you” I managed to say after several moments of silence. “We will get her," I assure her.
"Don't disappoint me," she says and then disconnects the call.
