Leo's POV
Yesterday really set me off, and I’m still fuming about it.
I was in the torture room, finishing up with the last guy—literally tortured him to death—when Master barged in. I didn’t even realize he’d left the room. Guess he couldn’t handle the heat.
“Emma escaped,” he said, avoiding the mess I’d made. I know him too well—he wasn’t happy I went after a vampire just because of a werewolf. But honestly, I didn’t care. They broke my rules. My rules. My word is law.
This was the first time anyone disobeyed me, and I wasn’t about to let it slide. I needed to set an example, so nobody else would even think about crossing me again. My message was simple: mess with her, and you’ll end up like these guys—dead.
But then I hear she escaped. While I’m out here making a statement, she runs off? I killed my own people—my family—for her, and this is how she repays me?
I shot Master a deadly glare. “How? When?” I shouted, grabbing him by the neck before he could even answer. His eyes went wide, full of fear, like he didn’t recognize me anymore. Like I’d turned into some kind of monster.
I threw him across the room, and he hit the wall hard, sliding down in a heap. When he looked up, he started scrambling backward on his butt like he couldn’t get away fast enough. Good. He should be scared. I was beyond pissed.
“Start talking,” I snapped, my voice making him flinch. “How the hell did she escape?” He stammered so much, I thought he might actually piss himself.
There was no way Emma could’ve gotten out without me knowing. If she’d gone through the gate, the guards would’ve called me. The only other option was the secret tunnel—something only me and Master knew about.
I narrowed my eyes at him, holding on to a sliver of hope. “What did you do?” I asked coldly.
He got to his feet, shaking, but wouldn’t even look me in the eye. “I’m sorry… I had to…” he started to say.
Before he could finish, I was in his face, grabbing his throat and lifting him off the ground. “Did you betray me?” I growled, my voice sharp and raw.
He was supposed to be my friend, someone I trusted. But now? He’d gone behind my back. Not only did he betray me, but he also revealed our secret to Emma—the one thing no one else was ever supposed to know about.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t have a choice,” he choked out, tears spilling as he tried to explain.
That was it. My rage hit its peak, and I couldn’t hold back. I slammed him to the ground, but I didn’t let go just yet. I thrust my hand into his chest, grabbed his heart, and squeezed hard, almost ripping it out.
He screamed, his whole body shaking like crazy, and his legs turned to jelly. I held him up with my free hand before he completely crumpled to the ground.
“I was scared,” he finally managed to choke out, his voice weak and shaky. He paused, gasping for air. He was in serious pain. “I... I...” He stammered, trying to gather enough strength to finish. “Jealous. I was afraid you’d abandon us for her one day,” he finally admitted. “I’m sorry.”
My voice dropped low, filled with fury. “What the hell did you do to her? Where is she?”
“Nothing, I swear!” he stammered. “I just told her to run... to never come back here again.”
For a moment, I almost ripped his heart out. His words lit a fire in me. If he wasn’t my friend, he’d be dead already.
As soon as I let him go, he mustered enough strength to get on his knees. “Please, forgive me,” he begged, crawling toward me with his hands clasped together like a desperate prayer.
“I trusted you with the secret tunnel,” I said, turning my back on him. “You betrayed me. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve already told someone where I hid the Fountain Dagger.” My voice was sharp, cutting through the silence.
“I’d never betray you!” he shouted, but I didn’t believe him. Without another word, I stormed out of the room and called a meeting.
When everyone was gathered, I addressed them, my voice cold and commanding. “I’m sure most of you have already heard about what I did to those vampires.” No one dared to speak; the tension in the room was thick. “If I give an order, I expect it to be followed. Defy me, and I won’t forgive you—no matter who you are.”
After making myself perfectly clear, I dismissed the group but told a few guards to stay behind.
“Emma escaped,” I informed them, watching their shocked faces.
“How? How did she get out without anyone noticing?” one of them asked, his voice full of disbelief.
I ignored the question. Like I’d tell them about the tunnel. “Find her. Bring her back to me. Unharmed.” My tone left no room for argument. They nodded silently and left.
“I’ll go with them,” a voice said behind me.
I didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. Master. He could barely stand, but there he was, determined.
I didn’t respond, just turned and walked out. He could do whatever he wanted. But as I reached the door, I heard him say, “I’ll find her. I promise.”
I left without looking back, without saying a word. He’d hurt me too much. And yet, as the hours dragged on, I couldn’t stop worrying about him. It was already 10 a.m., and I hadn’t heard from him or my guards since they left last night.
Was he okay? Even though I was still furious with him, I couldn’t help but hope he was safe. He shouldn’t have been moving around in his condition, let alone chasing Emma.
Then my phone rang. The moment I saw Master’s name on the screen, I answered without hesitation.
“I found her,” he said, his voice breathless like he’d been running a marathon. I knew it was just him overexerting himself. “The witches have her—or she’s hiding in their coven. I’m heading there now. I’ll get her and bring her to you, like I promised.”
My heart sank. He was going to the witches’ coven. Alone. Injured. With no backup.
“No,” I ordered, my voice sharp. “Stay there. Wait for me. I’ll be there in a minute.”
“I need to fix this,” he said. “It’s my mistake.” Then he hung up.
I called him back a dozen times, but he wouldn’t answer. That stubborn i***t. He was trying to get himself killed. Punishing me for what I did to him.
I threw on my clothes and bolted out of the room, moving faster than ever with my vampiric speed. There was no way in hell I was going to let him die.
