Chapter 42

1136 Words

Cynthia's POV I was sitting on the couch, binge-watching my favorite TV show with my mom when a sudden, frantic banging on the door startled us both. My heart jumped as I rushed to see who it was, my mom trailing behind me. To my shock, there stood Clark, flanked by five of Leo’s guards. They weren’t alone. With them were six vampires, barely clinging to life, their pale skin stained with blood, their bodies limp and lifeless. “What the hell?” I whispered, my voice barely audible. Mom was quick to voice my thoughts. “Why aren’t they at the hospital?” she asked, her tone sharp, demanding answers. One of the guards opened his mouth to reply, but Clark raised a hand, silencing him. His eyes flickered to me briefly. Clearly, he didn’t want me to hear whatever grim explanation they had.
