Emma was gone by the time I woke up. Her scent still lingered faintly in the room, but she was nowhere to be found. Andrea was missing too. I asked Master, Clark, Cynthia—anyone who would listen—if they’d seen her, if something had happened while I was unconscious, but no one had answers.
“Nothing happened,” Master told me the first time I cornered him. “After the battle with the wolves, we realized they were gone.”
Gone. Just like that.
Could they have run off because of the wolves that attacked the estate that day? I’d been asking myself that question on repeat for the past four days, and still, I had no answers.
