The Road and the Shadow of Civilization The stream led us through a maze of tangled undergrowth and fallen trees, a labyrinth of shadows and whispers. We walked for days, our bodies aching, our minds weary, our hope dwindling. We found a deserted logging road, a narrow strip of asphalt that wound its way through the dense forest. We followed the road, our footsteps echoing in the silence, our eyes scanning for any sign of civilization.
