I returned to the hospital, my mind racing. I had to warn Alessandro. I found him in his room, staring out the window, his expression grim. "We have to leave," I said, my voice urgent. "Someone recognized me." He turned to me, his eyes filled with a cold determination. "Then we leave," he said, his voice hard. "Tonight." We slipped out of the hospital under the cover of darkness, stealing a pickup truck from the parking lot. We drove through the night, leaving the town behind, our destination unknown.
