Silent tears slipped down my face, my lips trembling.
“There’s no need to be so dramatic,” Lucian said quickly when he noticed me crying.
“You’re only eighteen. We’re all still young too. Do you really want us raising a baby already?” he added, confidence written plainly across his face.
“He’s right,” Darius said, nodding. “I know someone who can take care of it. No one will ever find out. You can go back to living your life.”
“It’s for the best, Madeline,” Kaelen said, his anger now carefully controlled, his voice almost reasonable. “If you do this, we can go back to being friends. But you have to get rid of the problem. If my father finds out, he’ll lose it. He would never accept an omega like you as the mother of my child. Think about it this is in your best interest.”
Listening to them filled me with anger mostly at myself, for ever letting things reach this point.
Just then, my phone buzzed.
I glanced down and froze.
Dr. Rowan : I’ve sent your reports to the Alpha. He’s about to call your family. I cannot allow acts like this in my pack. It’s my responsibility to report unlawful behavior and ensure girls like you face the consequences.
My hands nearly dropped the phone, but I clutched it tightly, my vision blurring.
“What’s the problem, Elara ?” Darius asked impatiently. “If you want to keep the baby, you can. We’re not forcing you. We’ll even give you money. But we won’t give this baby our name.”
That was when I understood it was already too late.
The issue was never whether I could afford to raise the child.
The real problem was that the pack’s Alpha and the council would never let me keep it unless someone powerful claimed the baby.
And these three had made it clear they never would.
“I need to use the bathroom,” I said quietly.
They frowned in confusion but waved me off.
“Fine. Go,” Kaelen muttered.
As I walked inside, I knew they weren’t going to let me leave easily, not until I promised to keep their secret forever.
The moment I locked the guest bathroom door, I collapsed, sobbing.
But even through my tears, I heard their voices outside.
“I’m not going to be the father of some omega’s baby,” Darius scoffed.
“You think I want to?” Lucian snapped. “I’ve got Alpha’s daughters lining up for me, and she shows up like a curse.”
“She did this on purpose,” Kaelen said coldly. “I know it.”
“So what do we do if my mother finds out?” Lucian muttered.
Their families were rich, powerful, arrogant.
They would never accept the truth.
And in that moment, I realized I had only one option left.
To lie.
When I stepped out of the bathroom, they were waiting.
“My period started,” I said quietly.
Relief washed over their faces instantly.
Darius and Lucian laughed.
“Really?” Kaelen asked, grinning widely.
The brighter their smiles grew, the deeper the pain cut.
“Then why did you come to us with this and cause so much stress?” Darius snapped. “You should’ve confirmed it first. Missing one period doesn’t mean you’re pregnant.”
“I’ll just go home,” I muttered. “My flow is heavy. I need pads.”
They exchanged glances and nodded.
“Yeah, go on,” Kaelen said dismissively, rolling his eyes.
As I passed between them, one last question burned inside me.
“You said if the baby wasn’t there, we could be friends again,” I said. “Is that true?”
I didn’t ask because I wanted their friendship.
I asked because I needed to see who they really were.
“You really think after dragging us into a mess like this, we’d take you back?” Kaelen sneered.
“We’ve got better things to do than hang around some omega,” Darius added with a smirk.
Lucian laughed. “Are you insane? It took us this long to finally get rid of you.”
Their words cut like knives.
I gave them a broken smile.
“I knew it. I just wanted to hear it from your mouths.”
Then I turned away and walked out through the mansion and into the night.
But the nightmare wasn’t over.
When I reached home, my stepmother was waiting.
I already knew the council and the doctor must have called.
The moment I stepped inside, the door slammed shut behind me.
“She’s home!” my stepmother shouted.
My father and half-sister stormed out of the kitchen, fury written across their faces. My father didn’t hesitate his hand struck my cheek so hard my vision spun.
“What filthy things have you been doing?” he roared. “Are you trying to drag my name through the mud?”
He stood there gripping his belt, ready to use it.
“I told you not to give her so much freedom,” my half-sister sneered. “Why send her to school at all?”
“She’s just like her mother,” my stepmother spat. “A whore.”
I took a deep breath.
“I just want to go to my room and rest,” I said.
He raised his hand again but this time, I stopped him.
“Don’t you dare lay a hand on me,” I shouted. “Do you understand?”
They froze.
For the first time, they realized I wasn’t voiceless anymore.
I wasn’t brave for myself.
I was brave for my baby.
I climbed the stairs to my room and shut the door just in time to hear my stepmother whisper:
“Wait until the omegas leave for Alpha’s birthday. When the house is empty, we’ll push her down the stairs. By the time the council arrives, the baby will be gone.”
My blood ran cold.
There was only one choice left.
To run.
When they left the house, I climbed out the window with a small bag of money and ran into the woods, pulling my hoodie over my face.
I didn’t take the road.
I went to the docks.
The human world.
Where the unwanted were cast.
As the ship pulled away, I pressed a hand to my stomach.
“It doesn’t matter who your father is,” I whispered.
“I’ll be both your mother and your father.”
And I swore I would survive.
