Marcus shrugged with the most innocent look on his face. "That doesn't guarantee Dr. Amanda Sylvester here won't settle an old score, does it?"
He turned his gaze toward Henry. "After all, the patient isn't exactly on good terms with you."
It didn't take long before a hospital-wide notice went out announcing my dismissal from my post.
I knew Henry was behind it all. He was doing this to get even for Linda.
When I was thrown out of the hospital, every single person there stared at me with utter contempt.
Then, someone leaked the video of Linda screaming and pointing her finger at me online. Before I knew what hit me, one of my old patients tracked me down.
Smack! She slapped me hard across the face again and again, screaming, "You quack! No wonder my boyfriend still found out after my surgery! It's all because you're so garbage at your job!"
A group of people jumped at me and beat me.
Just then, Henry walked right past the scene with Linda. He simply covered her eyes and said coolly, "Don't look. This is bad luck."
All he did was toss a cold order to his bodyguards: "Bring her to me later."
My bruised face was crisscrossed with cuts and blood, and someone had even dumped urine all over me. I reeked of filth.
When the bodyguards dragged my broken, battered form into Linda's hospital bed, Henry was cooing at her, coaxing her to take a sip of water.
"Be good, I already blew on it to cool it down. Drink up now."
Tears streamed down my face before I could stop them. This soft, tender scene was something I'd waited five years for, and I'd never gotten it once.
Yet Linda had claimed it easily, in just ten short days.
The second Linda spotted me, she flew into a dramatic panic and threw her arms around Henry's waist. "Henry, what is she doing here? Is she here to hurt me again?
"My wound still hurts so bad, Henry! I'm scared!"
Henry rubbed slow, soothing circles on her back, his dark eyes boring into me with pure cold fury. "Amanda, I told you before. As long as you didn't go, stirring up trouble, I was perfectly fine letting you keep your position as Mrs. Forth in peace. But you just couldn't behave yourself. Linda is not like those other women. Lay a finger on her, and you cross my hardest line, one I'll never let anyone cross."
He shifted his gaze back to Linda, his voice going soft as butter. "Don't be scared, Linda. I brought her here so you can get your revenge."
A flash of triumph glinted in her eyes, but she kept her voice trembling and meek. "Really? Can I get my revenge any way I want?
"She's your wife. Do you really have the heart to go through with this?"
Henry smiled and pressed a kiss to the corner of Linda's mouth. "No one matters more than you."
Linda pinned me with a smug, challenging glare. "Then I want her to feel the same agony I went through!"
He agreed before the words even finished leaving her mouth, "Fine."
He tossed the order to his bodyguards like it was nothing. "Arrange for a doctor."
I stared at this cold, heartless man in front of me, disbelief clawing at my chest. "Henry! I am your wife!"
I fought and thrashed with every ounce of strength I had. But the bodyguards pinned me to the floor so hard I couldn't twitch a single muscle.
Henry's voice drifted over, light as a feather. "Amanda, you did wrong, so you have to face the consequences. Don't you think?"
They dragged me into the operating room. After checking me over, one of my former colleagues found Henry, his face tight with unease. "Mr. Forth… your wife, she… she's still a virgin. Isn't… isn't this just too cruel for her?"
The anesthetic burned into my vein and spread slowly through my body. I panted softly, screaming Henry's name.
"Henry, don't do this to me. Please."
The man paused, his mouth already half-open to speak, but a fit of screaming agony from Linda snatched his attention away.
The next second, Linda came staggering hysterically to the windowsill and clung to it, sobbing, "Henry, I'm bleeding again! Dr. Foreman said the infection got worse, and I'll never be able to have your children!"
