Kom Butu, Egypt Day Six The coast was clear until Rey climbed the ladder. Two men dressed in black stood between the cars. Rey hesitated. The men stared at him, seeming to wait for something. Or someone. Like Jane. Rey held his ground. Only his head was above ground level. Long seconds passed. One man turned to the other. In unison, they aimed over the hood of the rental car and fired. Swearing, Rey ducked as a bullet pinged off the wall behind him. Sweat soaked his back and forehead. His hands gripped the sides of the ladder as he fought to keep his head clear. Just stay present. I’m not back in Libya. And yet part of his mind heard the explosion of Tomahawks and the continual roar of 30mm Avenger seven-barrel cannon rounds. Just stay present.I’m not back in Libya. Focus.
