Chapter Two

1110 Words
Hayley looked over Darryl’s shoulder at the tall slim girl with a braided top knot pointing an accusing finger at her. She was Melissa, Darryl’s a year and going on two girlfriend and she was marching towards them with fierce determination no doubt to rescue her boyfriend from the bewitching hand of the seductress. She planted herself before them hands on hips and slid Hayley a searing gaze as she let go of Darryl’s cheek. She had always known that something was going on between the two of them and now she had had proof and Darryl wasn’t going to deny it. ‘Lisa, w – ‘ ‘I caught you and don’t deny it Darryl.’ Her finger moved to Darryl. He wasn’t going to give an explanation or deny anything but he kept quiet. ‘How many times have I told you not to try and seduce my boyfriend?’ she addressed Hayley. ‘As if I’m that pretty.’ ‘Did I say you are?’ Melissa asked. ‘You didn’t, now would you drag your man away from here and give a work maniac some space?’ Melissa scowled at her but Hayley had a skin three centimetre’s thicker than a crocodile’s so it didn’t offend her. ‘But you still haven’t shown me what you are drawing,’ Darryl protested. Melissa grabbed him by the small arm and pulled him up. ‘Let’s go. We have shopping to do remember?’ ‘I don’t.’ Melissa gave an exasperated gasp. ‘You forgot that you promised me you are taking me shopping before you leave?’ Hayley’s head jerk up. ‘You are leaving?’ she asked him. ‘Only for a little while,’ he began but Melissa had covered his mouth preventing more from coming out. ‘Don’t tell her it’s for my ears only, come on let’s go,’ her eyes went down to his shoes and she whined. ‘What’s this? I asked you to wear red because it’s in the height of fashion.’ ‘But its red,’ Darryl defended. ‘Its dark red, oh you are hopeless, let’s go.’ She began to pull him away. ‘Good bye Hayley,’ he said waving. ‘Bye,’ she waved back. ‘Don’t wave to her, and don’t say bye either.’ She said pulling him all the more away from a potential threat. Hayley continued with her drawing. She was drawing a large garden with different flowers blooming in the sun fountains sparkling under the sun beams. She paused for a moment a thought passing through her mind. Tugging at her mind. It looked like she had forgotten something. What was it? Oh it was just that she was drawing the palace garden. She checked her watch for the time. It was three time to get going to her part time job. She placed her sketch pad and pencil into her shoulder bag and headed for the gate. Pausing in front of it she thought of going back to see her mother and tell her goodbye. Hayley pulled open the gate and went out, there was no need to say goodbye. She trekked down the road debating on whether to take a taxi to the pizza place or trek down there. She decided on trekking, taking taxi would involve money and money wasn’t something she was able to spare now. Why not trek? A long walk would be nice and it’s another beautiful day in Oduduwa. Her phone made a beeping sound and she pulled it out of her bag. It was from her friend Allyson and by the use of the angry emoticon she could see she was angry when she texted this. Why didn’t you pick your phone!?! The message read. She found out that she had ten missed calls all from Allyson. No wonder she was angry. But to her defence she hadn’t heard the phone ring. I’m sorry she texted back. I didn’t hear the phone ring call me back later I’m on my way to my part time job. She put the phone back into the bag and continued her way to her part time job. **** It was another beautiful day in the kingdom of Oduduwa, King James Tokunbo Williams; sovereign ruler of the kingdom of Oduduwa inhaled the sweet scent of the flowers in his gardens. The roses were in riotous blooms in varieties of colours, hibiscus and jasmine bloomed in bright colours the air was sweet with the smell of flowers. James moved through the paved path flicking his fly whisk over his shoulders randomly. Deer leapt in his part and away and James smiled radiantly. His mind was at peace and he was overjoyed that his son was returning to his home land after three years in the United States. He missed the boy so and was ecstatic that he was finally coming back home. How he will have grown. He had just turned fourteen when he left and was returning as a young man of seventeen. A gala had been organised in his honour of his return and birthday and also his engagement ceremony to Aisha the beautiful daughter of his long-time friend and confidant colonel Lawal. What a lovely marriage they would have. His son would resist at first that was normal but he would later fall in line and perhaps in love as his wife and the boy’s mother had said very confident but he was doubtful. He had no choice but to fall in line but personally he would love for him to bring his woman home himself. Terence can be very unwilling and his mother can be very persuasive. And Aisha, she is someone Terence would disagree with completely but that wasn’t new but he doesn’t seem to like girls except a very fair few. Once he had told him he would love to be a priest. He too disagree a little of Aisha. The girl was very possessive, cold and haughty but sometimes she was sweet James couldn’t blame her; she had a very disturbing childhood which shaped her like that. A thought flashed through his mind and James frowned. His blanked out the thought of the dead former minister of education, Waldorf was such a fool to get himself killed and have his house robbed. He had so many times cautioned Waldorf about security and his levity about it. Well he had gotten himself killed as a result of his negligence; at least he did a heroic but stupid thing calling the police. He had given the police his blessings and expects full report of their investigations. James blanked out the thought of Waldorf and concentrated on this perfect day.
