Chapter 1 Selene’s POV “Don’t let her cross the border!” “Stop right there!” “Traitor!” “Make sure she doesn't escape!” Several voices shouted as I ran for my life. Each breath I took hurt and it made my heart twisted into a knot. My legs trembled and it was getting weak as I ran, but I didn’t stop. Blood was flowing from my arm where the silver bullet had hit me. It was painful and I could feel the silver spreading through my blood stream like a fire that was spreading but I didn't stop running. The ground of the forest was cold and swampy; the cold of the night made everything worse. My feet were getting numb, my body was weak and it protested as soon as I reached the Crescent border. There was a small distance between the Crescent border and the forbidden Nightshade territory. My heart beat fastly as I took some steps forward, I remembered how the dead bodies of some of our pack members were sent on a cold platter by the Nightshade people. “Selene, stop right there! You can't escape just, give up!” Someone shouted. I drew in a slow breath and without much hesitation, I took faster steps forward and crossed into the Nightshade territory. As soon as I entered the Nightshade territory, I felt the atmosphere change immediately. It was in a way colder, heavier, and everywhere was filled with a strange energy that made my skin tingle. I stepped forward slowly but stumbled to the ground, I groaned in pain as my arm was getting heavier, the pain became unbearable for me. My vision blurred, weakly I pressed a hand on my wound to stop the blood from flowing heavily but it only made it worse. My eyes snapped to the trees when I heard the snap of a branch, the air in my body rose, my heart beat loudly in my ears. I wasn't alone. My eyes swept around the trees but I didn't see anyone, my head started spinning around and I felt dizzy. I didn't hear the voices of those that were chasing me before, they must have stopped at the border, I knew they would not dare to come after me. It felt like the world was rotating, my knees and my hands were freezing “You have to keep moving Selene.” I whispered to myself. “Don’t stop.” I said and forced myself to stand up again. But after taking some steps forward I fell down and my legs were numb, they refused to work. I laid flatly on the ground, staring at the sky my eyes were closing on their own accord and just then, just before I embraced the darkness. I heard the cold voices of two men. ******* When I woke up I felt my whole body moving. I lifted my head up slowly and saw that I was being pulled by two strong hands. They were pulling me through the ground. My hands were already chained with iron, my head was banging heavily and I tried to move. I groaned in pain when one of them kicked me by the side to put me in order. “Stay still.” I heard a deep voice. I blinked a couple of times trying to get my vision cleared, when I did I saw three men, they were in black clothes but there was a badge on their shoulders and chest. The badge of the Nightshade army. I swallowed in fear, then turned to look at the men whose faces were hard and unreadable, it was of no use talking to them. “She is a Crescent, you can smell her scent.” One of them said, “She is bleeding, it seems she was shot by silver, look at that arm she won’t live long.” Another one said. The first man grunted then spoke. “The Alpha will decide what to do with her.” He said in a tone, to silence the rest. His words made a great wave of panic and fear rush through my entire body. They were taking me to their Alpha Damon Salvatore, a man everyone feared. They dragged me through the forest until we came out of the trees, the next thing I saw was a massive land opening. In different expensive houses my eye caught sight of wolves that were standing and watching as we were passing. Some of them growled at me when our eyes met, I brought my head down so I would not be able to look at them. They stopped walking when we got to the front of a large building with tall glass doors. The guards pushed them open and pulled me inside. There was a long table at the center of the room, there were maps and different weapons all over the table. I saw a man standing at the far end glancing down at the maps, he was tall, he had broad shoulders, dressed from black to hair. His hair was neat black, he lifted up his head and looked at me, his eyes were silver, he stared at me and my heart went still. “Alpha.” One of the guards said, bowing his head. “We found her near the border, she is of Crescent blood.” He added. The Alpha didn’t answer immediately, he just studied me without saying a word, his eyes were cold and intimidating. “What was she doing there?” He asked. “Running.” I said before the guard could answer. My voice was rough from exhaustion. His eyes went to me again. “Running from what?” “From people who wanted me dead.” “That could mean anything.” He said. “Who are you?” “My name is Selene.” I answered. At my words his men started murmuring, but he didn't look away, his eyes were on me. “Selene.” He repeated. “And which part of Crescent are you from?” He asked. I hesitated. “The eastern pack.” “Then you should have stayed there.” Damon stepped closer to me, he leaned closer, his men stepped backwards standing at attention “You crossed my border, you have Crescent blood, you die by Nightshade law.” His voice was calm. “Take her to the cells, she will be executed at dawn.” My heart skipped. “Please!” I said, my voice cracking. “I didn’t come here to cause trouble. I just needed to survive…” The guards grabbed me again, the chains sounded as they pulled me toward the door. “Alpha, please-”
