Chapter 10: Home Again We sent J.T. off to peel himself out of his costume and shower, then we piled all of the extras back onto the set for the rest of the big pep rally scene. It would end up at the beginning of the film, but you don’t shoot a movie straight through from front to back. You film whatever you’ve got the perfect light for, whatever you need the extras for, whatever you can work into that day’s shoot. Today, I wanted background shots of a crowd, something to convince the viewers our tale played out in a high school. I’d collected as many actors (of both genders) as I could find who’d fit the bill. We’d grab some distance shots of Bart making eye contact with his on-screen love interest in the crowd, then zoom in for a few close-ups. The extras would be hoarse from all that
