“Hi.” I'm snapped out of my thoughts by the voice of a customer who just walked in.
“Hello, welcome to royal wellness,” I say with the most fake smile I can muster. It's the work ethic. Whether I'm sad or not, I must smile. So in the past two weeks I've been working here, I've managed to build a good fake smile.
“Thanks.” The customer replies with a smile which I don't know if it's genuine or fake. But it seems a little bit real to me. He’s a young man, probably in his twenties. Fair skin, long blonde hair that falls on his neck, blue eyes and he appears neat and polished. He looks rich. He is handsome too. “Can I see your best collection?”
“Yeah, of course.” I turn to get the latest collection. The perfume shop is not that big, but they sell luxury perfumes. We are just two working here. Nara, the other worker, takes the evening shift while I take the morning shift. She's a kind, happy soul. She taught me everything I knew about the shop and sales.
“This is our latest and best collection.” I place five manly perfumes in front of him. He assessed them for a while before pushing one to me.
“What do you think about this one? Should I take it? Secret magic? It has a unique name too.”
I'm taken aback. None of the customers has ever asked me to make a choice for them, and I didn't know it's an option. I don't even know much about perfumes. It's not a werewolf thing. It can be used to hide scent although it's not as strong as a scent suppressant. The one grandma and I are using and I don't know how grandma got it. She only said it cost a lot.
The young man chuckles as he takes the perfume from me. “You look like you've seen a ghost. It's okay if you can't help me make a choice. It's just that you smell nice and I feel you will know what a good perfume smells like.”
I smell nice? I'm just using a local perfume and I don't think I even used it today. I don't use it often since I usually use the scent suppressant.
“Uhm….. the secret magic is okay. I think it smells nice,” I say, trying not to sound awkward.
“Yeah. It smells nice. I will take it.”
“Okay.” I take it from him to pack it.
“Amara. That’s a beautiful name,” he says looking at my tag.
“Thanks.” I mutter.
“I'm Lucas by the way.”
I nod and stare at his stretched out hand. I pretend I can’t take it because I’m busy with what I’m doing. Well, I don’t want to touch a stranger.
He smiles and takes back his hands. “Do you live around here?”
I don't feel okay with a stranger asking me this kind of question. Even though no one knows me here, I still have to be careful.
“No.” I lied.
“Well, I live around here. My house is not far from here.”
“Okay.” I mumble. “Your card.”
He gives me his card and I quickly process the transaction. I want him gone.
“Thanks for patronizing us,” I say with my fake smile as I give him the packed perfume, his card and receipt.
“It's nice meeting you Amara.” He takes his stuff, flashes me a bright smile before leaving. He gives off a strange vibe but I don't think much about it.
……..
ADRIAN
It's been two months since she left the pack. I've been searching everywhere for her but can't find her. It's as if she didn’t exist. Owen said he took her to the hospital the day she fainted after the rejection but before I got there, she had been discharged. I went to her home but her uncle and aunt said she didn't come there. They haven't heard from her. Sarah said that she hasn't heard from her either. Her phone was switched. She didn’t reply to my messages either.
I went to her maternal grandma's place, but no one was there. It was empty. I looked at every part of the pack for her, maybe she moved to another house with her grandma but I didn’t find her.
That's how I realized that she must have left the pack with her grandma. I was devastated. I never thought she would leave the pack. I mean, why would she leave the pack. This is her home. She was born and brought up here.
Where could she have gone? She has no one except her grandma and Sarah's parents. My private investigator looked for her and for the past two months, there's been no trace of her.
I regretted not asking Owen sooner. If I had asked him that particular day of the rejection, I would have caught up with Ada at the hospital. But that day, I was weak too. Yes I'm an Alpha, but the rejection unexpectedly brought so much pain to me. It was more like an emotional pain. I felt hurt and betrayed. For three days or maybe more, I couldn't leave my room.
I thought I would be fine. Sarah, the woman I've always wanted, is back. I should feel complete but I feel empty. Sarah told me what Ada did to her. At first, I didn't believe her but she showed me proof, the one her parents even confirmed. Ada is not who I think she is. I've been living with a liar and manipulator.
There is also proof that she was cheating on me. She was not only a liar but a cheater. I was broken. For two weeks, I gave her the cold shoulder. I thought she would realize that I've known her secrets but she still pretends to be innocent. She proved me right when she immediately signed the divorce papers and accepted the rejection. It was as if she was waiting for the right time to get rid of me. She didn't even try to fight. It was so easy for her to move on.
