ADRIAN
I was broken for days and couldn't leave my room, but she was quick to get over the rejection. She was so quick to leave the pack. Does it mean she's really cheating? Did she leave the pack to be with her lover?
I find it so hard to believe that she doesn't love me. That she has someone else but the evidence was there. And the pain I'm feeling because of it is excruciating.
But that's not the only reason I gave her divorce papers. Before Sarah came back, I've been receiving threats against Ada’s life. Whoever that person is wants me to leave her. If I don't leave her, she will die. I ignored the threat until it became serious. That person knows Ada’s every move. He even sent me a picture of her sleeping in our room.
He also sent me a video of how a bus would have run Ada over but didn't go with the plan. They are trying to tell me that they can easily kill her without breaking a sweat. I hired secret bodyguards for her because I don't want her overwhelmed but that didn't help. Her life was still in danger.
When Sarah told me things about Ada, even with the proof and also when I learned about her cheating on me. I still don't want her out of my life. Because without knowing, I've fallen in love with her. I thought it was the mate bond but now that the bond is not here, what can explain this ache due to her absence.
It means I love her. I've always loved her.
I wanted to confront Ada with the truth I've learned about her, especially with her cheating but I know that I will be more broken if she didn’t deny the allegations. Also I want to protect her. If I divorce her, her life will no longer be threatened.
But now I don't know if I did the right thing by divorcing her. I don't even know where she is. If she's fine or not. How will I protect her when she's not here?
“You know what, Adrian, I don't get you. You are the one that let her go but since she left, you have been acting as if the world is over. As if you don't have any purpose again. You are distracted and you don't do your job well. I'm the one cleaning up your mess.” Eric, my cousin and beta, says in frustration. I'm sure he has had enough of me already.
I know that I've not been functioning well for the past two months but I can't help it. I don't think I will be able to live a normal life again until I find Ada and be sure she's fine.
“Why did she leave? I didn't even know that she would accept the rejection and talk more of leaving the pack. What could be her reason for leaving?” I mutter. I feel so drained. I haven't slept well for the past two months.
I thought the alimony payments in her account would lead me to her. My plan was to wait for her to withdraw money from her account so I can use it to track her. But when I later checked her account, nothing was there.
I put that money in her account two days before I gave her the divorce papers. I never knew her as a material person. I didn't expect the money to be gone so soon. It was as if she was waiting for it. She pretended not to want the car and other things I got for her, but she was so quick to take the money and disappear.
If money was her problem, she could have told me instead of cheating and running away. I have tons of money to give her. I so much want to believe that she's innocent but that action of hers speaks otherwise.
“Well, if I'm her, I would leave too. Staying in this pack will only make her hurt and she will never heal, especially if she watches you take another woman as your Luna.”
“I didn't plan on taking anyone as my Luna.”
“Then why is Sarah still here in the pack house? What's her role in your life?”
“Just leave Sarah alone.” I sigh.
“Well, it seems I can't. She's making everything difficult for those in the pack house. She's acting as if she's Luna. She's making a lot of people uncomfortable including me.” He spat.
“I will talk to Sarah. She's probably stressed out.”
Eric rolls his eyes. “Stressed out because of what? She's the one stressing others out. Besides, no one asked her to come live in the pack house. If she's stressed out, she should go back to her father's house.”
“Just cut her some slack, Eric. You don't know what she has gone through.” I cut in.
“What the f**k has she gone through. She doesn't look like someone that has gone through anything. She looks just fine.”
I have also wondered the same. For someone who has gone through all the painful things that Sarah has been through. She seems fine. She doesn't show any sign of trauma or whatsoever. Or maybe she knows how to manage it well. She's probably hiding her pain and bearing it alone.
“I can't even believe that the elders were in support of you divorcing Ada. I mean, what were they thinking? Ada has been nothing but a good Luna to this pack. To everyone. If only I didn't go on that stupid trip, I would have stopped you from making such a silly mistake.”
Not all the elders were in support of me divorcing Ada even after I showed them the evidence of her cheating. They said we should call Ada to speak for herself but I refused. Ada was a good Luna, I know that, but being a good Luna doesn't make one a good wife.
There was evidence to what she did. And there are people who proved that the evidence is true, including some of the elders. They can't possibly be lying. And that's where it hurts so much because even though I try to tell myself that Ada is innocent, in the back of my mind, I know she's guilty and it hurts.
It hurts so much because despite knowing all these, I still want her back in my life. But keeping aside what she did, there's this mystery person that wants her dead. I need to find that person first before I will even think of having Ada back in my life.
I thought that if I divorce and reject her. I will make that person think that I’ve let her go. Then I will protect her from a distance while I find the mystery. But she left the pack. I can’t find her. I can’t protect her. I don’t even know if she’s fine or not.
“Can we not talk about this, please. I'm having a headache.” I rub my temples as I close my eyes.
My head is always in chaos. I haven't even given Sarah any attention for the past two months. I'm busy looking for Ada. I need to find her and make sure she's safe. Her life could be in danger.
“You know what, I don't believe that Ada will cheat on you. Yes, there is evidence but they might be fake and I will prove it to you.”
Eric has been on my neck since he came back and realized that I've divorced Ada and she has left the pack too. I'm sure my mother will also be furious if she learns the truth. Though my father is dead and I'm now the Alpha of this pack, my mum still holds a great power in this pack. In the company too. And she loves Ada. She has been away for two years after the death of my father. That's the custom.
She will be back in a few weeks time and I'm yet not ready to tell her about the divorce.
I'm sure she won't believe that Ada cheated on me. Eric too doesn’t believe it. Deep down in my heart, I want him to prove me wrong. I really want it to turn out that she didn't do what Sarah accused her of or cheat on me. But why would Sarah lie to me?
