CHAPTER 4

1997 Words
The drive to the club was longer than Thalia expected. She was left with her nerves. There was no Hera to chat with so that she could calm down. Thalia began to imagine what would happen in the club, the light and everything, and how wonderful it would be, to meet the perfect guy and get laid. Somehow, the thought of what could happen still scared her “We’re here, Ma’am,” the driver said, and she paid him for the ride. She had passed by the club several times during the day but this was the first time she had seen it at night. The lights and the atmosphere brought out the vibe of the place. It looked perfect. Thalia stepped out of the car and tried to steady herself as she walked to the club. She began to think about the several ways in which the night could end. She could end up drinking and not catching the eye of any man at all, going home alone, or she might end up with the worst man on the planet. She might just accept him because she was too lonely to do otherwise. Snap out of it, Thalia. She told herself and walked to the bouncer. She gave him her most alluring smile, showed him her card, and walked in. The place was exactly what she expected, yet it shocked her. The noise, the lights, the smells, everything attacked her all at once and she had to steady herself. “Are you okay?” She was almost falling and a strong hand reached forward to steady her. Thalia turned back and she was met with a boyish face and a handsome smile. “Thank you,” she muttered as she shook his hand away. He wasn’t the one, her heart told her. He looked like he was straight out of high school and she almost wanted to reprimand him for being at a club, but she held her tongue. “Do you mind if I buy you a drink?” He shouted above the music, and Thalia sighed. She almost said, no thank you, but she reasoned that it was better to just say yes. It was a good sign anyway, that she was being offered a drink the minute that she entered into the club. “Sure,” Thalia said and the young man with the golden hair nodded, he led her gently through the mass of dancing bodies under the huge neon strobe lights until they got to the bar. The bartender was looking quite unusual like he was supposed to be working at her office or something. “What can I help you with?” He asked in perfect Queen’s English and Thalia smiled, he had quirks, and she liked him. “Rocks on Ice please,” her fair-haired partner shouted over the din. “The same for me,” Thalia replied almost shyly. “Alright then, coming up.” The bartender began to work. Thalia wanted to watch him work and forget all about the loud songs and the writhing bodies around her, and the young boy looking at her like she was an angel. “You look beautiful,” he said. Thalia struggled not to cringe. It was not the kind of thing that was said in a club at all. “Thank you,” Thalia replied. It just might be that he was as shy as she was. She knew that his cheeks would have been pink if she could see him through the dark haze. “What is your name?” The boy looked so surprised that Thalia had asked him that he began to cough. Thalia had to stifle a laugh at that. The drinks came in then so that embarrassing situation was relieved. The young boy took his drink and downed it in one gulp. “Adrian, my name is Adrian,” he said immediately after. Thalia had to agree that he was quite cute. He needed some alcohol to tell her his name. “Are you old enough to be here?” Thalia asked and Adrian bent his head, albeit slightly, and then ordered a martini. Thalia just sighed, what wonderful luck she had today. The first person to show interest in her was a little kid. Once again, Mother Nature has dealt me a fatal blow; She said in her mind “Does it matter?” He asked. He sounded like a little child who was reprimanded. “It does,” Thalia said and sighed. She couldn’t deal with this. That was not how she envisaged her night going at all. “Let us dance,” Adrian said and tried to place her hands in his. Thalia removed her hands from his immediately. “I need to use the bathroom,” she said and took her purse with her. Thalia was frustrated and annoyed at this point. She wanted some time out, some excitement, not some time with a teenager. Thalia could admit that she was not so far from that herself at twenty-one, but college was a lifetime away from her. He was too young for someone like her and too skittish. Thalia felt the need to release her bladder and went into the bathroom. As in clubs, it was crowded and full of people that were touching each other inappropriately, or appropriately since it was a club and all. Thalia felt oddly jealous of them. At least they have the right partner to have some fun with. She brought out her phone and texted Hera after she used the bathroom. She wasn’t quite ready to go back to the bar. She had a feeling that Adrian would still be seated waiting for her. “Hey.” The message was replied almost immediately. “Why are you texting me Thalia, you should be half drunk by now!” Well, she should be, Thalia thought with a sigh, if not that the night had gone wrong. “Oh, I haven’t had the chance just yet.” Thalia gave Hera a quick run down. “You should go back, and we'll pretend like you don’t know him or something.” Thalia figured that she could take that advice and she fixed her makeup and walked into the club. It was so full of people that it took a while to spot Adrian, he was on the dance floor, with another girl. They seemed in sync with each other's bodies. For some reason, that hurt her. Thalia shook her head and looked forward, she immediately picked up a tall man, he was wearing a suit, yet he looked like he belonged. His eyes met hers and it seemed like he was moving toward her. Thalia felt like her heart could burst right through her chest. She almost wanted to turn back and run out of the club. Her feet were rooted to the ground of the club, she couldn’t move even if she wanted to. He was looking at her, she was sure of it. Thalia tried to calm herself as she stood still gazing at the dashing man. “Hey doll, what are you doing standing alone?” The handsome man asked as he walked to her. His height was more apparent as he was close to her. His white shirt was unbuttoned to the third button and his suit was body-styled. His black hair looked like he had run his fingers through it multiple times. She couldn’t see the color of his eyes quite clearly because of the light, but she knew that he would look quite perfect with it. She knew everything would look good on this demi-god. “Uhmm,” Thalia was lost for words. She just stared at him oddly and hoped that she was not hanging her mouth open. “Let me get you a drink,” he said and guided her to the bar. Thalia tried to calm herself as they walked together. She couldn’t believe someone who looked as perfect as that was talking to her. THANK YOU MOTHER NATURE, AT LAST; Thalia screamed gleefully “Thank you,” she murmured. He helped her to sit on the bar stool and ordered drinks from the bartender. He was much more in control of his words. The bartender looked at her oddly, but he didn’t say anything. Thalia knew that in his line of work, he would see all kinds of odd things. Thalia found herself comparing him to Adrian from the moment before and every single time, Adrian was found severely lacking. The handsome man gave her a charming smile as he talked to the bartender. “What do you want to drink?” He asked her quietly. His voice was so deep that it got her tingly in the right areas. “A martini please,” she said, she was blushing because her mind had gone to a very dirty place. Thalia knew that she must have looked like a nervous wreck with her hands shaking out of nervousness, Everything this man said and did threw her mind off balance. “Alright,” he said and ordered the drinks. “So doll, what should I call you?” He asked and yet again Thalia blushed. Everything that came out of his mouth sounded just right. “Thalia,” she said quietly, her face flushed “What a beautiful name, it suits you, of course, you are a Greek goddess.” Thalia smiled at that. She was quite surprised, many people didn’t know that Thalia was the name of a Greek Goddess. Unlike the name Hera which was much more popular. “Thank you.” Thalia didn’t know how to ask his name, so she just stared at his hands. He had long fingers, they looked quite perfect as they wrapped around his glass. His platinum watch shone against the glass. The man had class. She was lost in thoughts when she felt his hand on her jaw. His grip was strong yet soft as he guided her face to look into his eyes. He wasn’t smiling, but his eyes seemed to be dancing as his brown eyes seemed to penetrate right through her soul. “I am Damon, Thalia,” he said. Thalia felt like she could melt into a muddle at that moment. She looked down and tried to move for her glass of alcohol at that moment. She felt the anxiety that Adrian had felt when talking to her at that point. “Your name is nice,” Thalia stuttered, she didn’t think she could manage to say anything more. God, What is he doing to me? Thalia thought even though she knew he didn’t need to do much, she was already enchanted by him from her first glance at him. Damon. The name suited him, he had a dark look around him. Thalia knew that it was that aura that attracted her. She liked the danger, something she was desperately looking for Like they said, all good boys go to heaven and bad boys bring heaven to you. She needed that heaven that he could give her. He took her hand in his and started to roll small circles on the back of her hand. She could tell that he was checking her out, she could feel the heat of his eyes roaming around her body. Thalia kept on imagining if his hands and his tongue would have the same effect, maybe even more. Anyone else would have looked odd with a suit in a club, but Damon looked almost like he could set a standard for suits being worn to clubs. “Let’s dance,” he said. Thalia’s heart had settled into a simple and steady pace, but the words made it begin to beat like it wanted to escape her chest again. “Alright.” The word was barely off the seam of her lips when she was led to the dance floor.
