Jesse grimaced. "I mean, not with your voice… I felt something through the bond. I didn't know what it was at first, but it woke me up and… and it got stronger the closer I got to you. And then when I got in here you were thrashing around and you kept saying no, and it sounded like… like…" she swallowed audibly.
"What?" I snapped, not meaning to sound so cold, but I had a feeling I didn't want to hear the answer to the question. And yet…
She swallowed again. "You just felt really sad," she whispered, like she was afraid I'd be angry at her for saying it.
