Chapter 2

Eros'POV

         "Or should I say Aspen" She didn't utter a word, just sat silently her gaze fixed on me, few seconds later her eyes ran across my form all the way to my feet, well what is visible of my form, since there is a table blocking her sight, then her eyes went back up to my eyes again. Her eyelids close just a little, really not that much but she suddenly look even colder than before, and finally her lips parted

"Whatever what you want, I probably don't have it" her voice is soft but the same time have a cold edge to it, I c****d an eyebrow

"And what is that we want" I answered my voice laced with amusement, anyone in her place would start begging by now promising to return the money as soon as they can and offer anything to not hurt them, but but she doesn't, she is different, I knew it when we were chasing her and almost cought her

"It's you how know, I can only tell it's not money you wanted, the chances that you know me is non-existent not to mention where I live, otherwise you would have brought the survey with, actually if you do know me you would have known I don't have money to return it. You somehow managed to trace me across the town, which means you saw me giving all your money away, but didn't stop me, you could have chased me again but you didn't, the money wasn't what peaked your interest"

"Smart little girl, yet something is bothering me" her lips twitched "you didn't comment on how the wallet you stole was actually full of money, why would we chase you for some change, and when we almost got you, you acted fast almost as if you expected that we will catch up to you no matter what"

"I have been pickpocketing for almost 10 years, my one and only rule after I snatch anything is to not keep anything unnecessary for more than ten minutes, when I pickpocket someone I always choose someone who is careless and have their attention on something else preferably a person, I brash my shoulder in their's they usually push me away and start shouting and throwing insults in my way then return their attention to whoever have it before me, that give me a chance to get away from their line of sight, worst case scenario, that they check their pockets right after they divert their attention from me, when they realize I robbed them they will start searching for me, but if they found what I took nearby with me far away from their reach they would probably give up even if I took all the money they got them"

" But .." I said for her to continue

"No one, and I mean no one ever noticed me, not the ones I pickpocket them nor anyone around them, you were the first, I open the wallets I steel right after I get pushed away and my back to the victim to get what I want and dispose the wallet as fast as possible, when I opened yours, and found that much money, I knew you either are some weird rich people who are out on an adventure or people that I should never mess us, but when I heard you saying I stole his wallet I knew it was the later, from the voice I could tell it wasn't those reckless two who were fighting in the middle of a busy street, I managed to see the four of you with corner of my eyes before I flee, thus saw you, so when you surprised me from the front I knew now was the best time to drop your wallet if I ever want to get away. My hat falling was a sheer accident, didn't expect the lad to be this strong"

"Hey.." protested Declan but I silenced him

"Still, I know your name, I just mentioned it few minutes ago, what make you think it's not you who we came here for"

"Then what is my full name, how old I am, what is my current occupation" her answer made my smile widen "I don't belong to any organization not to mention an illegal one, me meeting you today was coincidence nothing planned, you can see that by now" 

"Oh, I actually could see that long before we came here, but thank you for confirming my suspension, I followed you here because of something else, something in you, don't you think you are rather too sharp and calculative to be someone normal"

"I told you, I have nothing to do with your business, if I'm sharp and calculative it's my nature"

"That is why you are unique, you can read situations and probably people like books, and not just gifted but know how to use it, you know one of my gifts is analysing people's potential and you, my dear, have some very good qualities"

"So" at this point not only her but the two idiots give me a confused look, Eugene static as always but I guess he get where I'm heading to

"Tell me Aspen, are you interested in a job"

"What!!" Aspen and the two idiots again surprised

"Shut up you two" I sent a dirty look their way and focused on Aspen again "what do you know about survey, no let me say that again what do you know about the bad side of the survey"

"The survey main existence is for keeping is save and the kingdom afloat, their bad side must never appear to public"

"Smart girl, I really am starting to like you very much, we, my dear, are the bad side of the survey, better known as the made survey, criminals spared from death to the dirty work of this kingdom, but Aspen have you Interrogated someone" she just looked at me her eyes a little wide her posture rigid but didn't answer "c'mon we are not stingy we pay good, don't embarrass a fellow criminal"

"I'm nothing like you"

"Ouch, now you are hurting my feelings, but unfortunately you can't refuse, I have been searching like crazy for anyone capable of reading people for so long, and you being a criminal even though only committed small crimes saved me a lot of effort, so sorry for being rude but accept it or go to jail"

She sigh loudly "amm.. look "

"Eros" 

"Huh"

"My name is Eros"

"Look Eros I appreciate your offer and all, but .. the bad side of the survey, doing the dirty job of the kingdom, that doesn't sound the latest bit appealing than going to jail"

"But don't wanna go to jail, look we can speak about it the hole night, I can blackmail you with the widows, the orphans and the boy who sells matches and his sister, sadly we don't have the hole night, and I'm not going out of here without an answer and I'm not taking a no for an answer either, so please save us all that and accept"

"Is that really the only choice I have you are telling me now to sell my life to the devil"

"Yes, so since there is no choice, c'mon" I said and dragged her by the hand outside

"Stop that's k********g!!" 

"Try all you want, you seem to live alone and not that any passbyer would stop me" she shutted down at that and let me drag her peacefully to the main street all the way to our carriage that took about 40 minutes

As we got there, and all the five of us got in, the driver we payed giving Aspen specially a weird look as the woman who is dragged to ride with four dangerous looking men but isn't protesting, once the door was closed Robert got a cloth filled with some food from somewhere we will never knew, I have once read about something called a black hole it still a theory though but I'm sure there is one in Robert's stomach, since he eats like a starved gorilla, I snatched some bread, cheese and a pastry from him

"Hey, that's mine you want some get yours" I ignored him as I hand the food to woman beside me

She gave me a confused look before I answered "the hole day I didn't see you on e eat anything and you gave all your money to the others, it doesn't take a genius to know you probably doesn't have any food in your house, so here, have some" she hesitantly took them from me, then proceed to look at the pastry weirdly " it's a pastry, made of dough, like the bread, and filled with something usually sweet, this one probably filled with chocolate" she still start with the bread and cheese, she tried to eat slowly but she does look hungry, then she stared at the pastry hesitantly before taking a bite, and looks like she liked it, a lot

After finishing I heard a soft thanks "well, anytime, that if you are willing to work with us"

"And you made it very clear I don't have a choice"

"Trust me you will thank whatever put us in your way in the end"

"Doubt that" she said quietly but I heard it

"Whatever you think"
