Chapter 6

Chapter 6 I went to school the next day like usual. Same old, same old. I assumed the usual would happen. Classes, lunch, recess, more classes, and home. But for the most dreaded time of the day, recess, it was different. I walked out to the playground with Connor. "Haha Mrs. Ethelberg is the worst for math! Seriously!" I yelled at him. "Well I didn't know which to p-pick!" He laughed. When he laughed he seemed so normal. I mean, he's not abnormal, just odd. Yet he really just seemed so lose and carefree when he just laughed. Suddenly, I stopped dead in the middle of the equipment. I looked up assuming to see Adam in his usual place. Yet I was simply stunned. But in a good way. There was no Adam. No car, no man, no nothing. I couldn't help but smile. "Crystal? Are you okay? Hello?" Connor started frantically waving his hand in front of my face. I came back down to reality and nodded. I didn't realize this whole time I have just been awkwardly standing here. "Yeah, yeah, of course. I'm great." Once again I gave him a reassuring smile. We continued our conversation. Everything for once seemed okay. I mean, not for once. I haven't always been in such a worried state. You know, until eighth grade I really never had anything to freak out about. I'm such a picky perfect person so everything has gone my way. Maybe this all taught me a lesson. To not take things for granite so easily. "How was school babe?" My mom said as I reached for my after school snack. "Really great." Trevor smash some Cheerios on the table. My mom reprimanded him quickly. Things seemed perfect right now. But maybe it was too perfect. Perhaps things can't possibly stay this perfect for too long. But maybe I was getting ahead of myself. This has only been one perfect day out of many dis functional ones. "Crystal?" My mom said bringing me out of my hazed phase. "Yeah?" "Let's go to your room for a second and talk." I shrugged and went to my room she followed me. I plopped down on my bed. "I uh, been noticed something lately. It seems like something has been bothering you. I don't know what other way to put it really. Your a great kid, I'm not saying that you aren't. You always do what your told, your nice, nothing to do with that sort of thing. But I just want to make sure that your okay." She stroked my long blonde hair. I pondered for a second, and then decided what to say. "I'm okay. Don't worry about me, I'm the same girl I was last year and the year before." I sighed after. I know I shouldn't have lied. But I could not give her something stupid like Adam to worry about. I'm sure it was for the better. "Alright. If anything is ever wrong, ever, please tell me. Your my baby and I would do anything---" "Mom, I'm good." I gave her a solid hug. I tried to reassure her everything WAS okay, but I'm not sure if my acting skills were up to par.
