Chapter 3: Look what we have here

2753 Words
Three months later Viola couldn’t help it but want to burst out in tears. As the doctor congratulated her on her pregnancy and she herself smiled in return, not because she was happy but because she was slapped with the realization that she was about to become a mother. It started with a single missed period but she blamed it on her birth control and it got even worse when she began gaining a little weight then she blamed it on all the GMO foods that she was being fed. But the last straw was when she started feeling sick almost every morning and that was when it hit her that she could possibly be pregnant. Viola then quickly rushed to the nearest pharmacy and got herself a pregnancy test and she came back to her family home to try it. Those three minutes were the longest three minutes of her entire life and as soon as it was done, she picked up the test and looked at it, two pink lines. Viola was pregnant and she couldn’t still believe it and she pulled out another three more test all showed positive except one and that was all the faith she needed. So quickly booked an appointment with the doctor that same day to take a pregnancy test and here she was in the doctor’s office being told that she was three months pregnant. Viola did everything mechanically but she had made up her mind that she was going to get rid of it, until the doctor showed her the pea sized baby with beating heart. She realized right then and then that she couldn’t do it by herself, she needed to find John Callaghan and soon. For the next week Viola spent her days looking for the man that she spent a passion filled night with, John Callaghan. But her search was hopeless because he was nowhere to be found. Now she suddenly realized how stupid it was of her not to leave her contact details with him. It was time for breakfast with the family and she was called downstairs, for the past week she has gotten away with not eating at the table because of her morning sickness but this time her parents weren’t letting her get away. She hadn’t told anyone that she was pregnant yet, imagine the outrage from her sisters that she had let a man get to her. As soon as she got down the steps and made her way to the living room, the stench of all the food got to her which made her little sick bus she was determined to hold it in. “Good morning family” she greeted them, trying to appear okay although she was dying on the inside. They greeted her in return as she sat on her chair waiting for her breakfast to be delivered to her. “Wow Viola that must be a wicked bug you got there, you’ve been sick for a while now. I hope it’s not contagious?” As if pregnancy could be contagious. Viola rolled her mind’s eye as she tried to focus on herself. The house help appeared and placed her food before her, which consisted of two Sunny side up, a sausage and toast. Something which she enjoyed eating but she now loathed but she did crave for pickles. The whole family ate their foods but she just starred at it like it was foreign to her and her baby was certainly not agreeing with it. Both her sisters stopped eating and they were looking at her and as soon as she looked up she saw them. “What?” she asked them. “You haven’t touched your food” that was Scarlet speaking to her now and she Viola felt so guilty about it. So she picked up her toast and she took a bite of it. Luckily it landed in her stomach without any fuss. But as she looked at her mother and after they were looking at her with a smile on their faces and that usually meant that they had something to be happy about. “What are you two grinning about?” she asked her parents and her mom dropped her napkin on the desk and clapped her hands together. “Don’t you have anything to tell us dear?” Her mother asked politely, trying to keep the happiness from bursting out of her. Well I’m three months pregnant and I didn’t know where to find the father of my baby while also being concerned that my sisters would hate me if they found out that I was pregnant. As much as Viola tried to say that, she knew she couldn’t say such as thing. Her parents would be furious with her and her sisters— she didn’t know what they were going to do but she didn’t want to find out. “No” she simply ended like that. “Oh if you’re not going to say it, I will. Viola’s going to be a mother!” her mother yelled out in excitement and her father had a beaming smile on his face. She couldn’t understand why they were happy or how they knew but the look on her sister’s faces said otherwise, they weren’t happy one bit. Before she could explain herself both her sisters walked out of the dining room and up the steps, leaving Viola with both her parent who were still excited about the news. Viola didn’t know if it was her hormones acting out like that but she began crying and both of her parents got out of their seats to hug her. Her father kissed her on her head and hugged her tighter. “It’s okay dear, we’re not mad at you. You are a grown woman who can make her own decisions in life.” She got out of her father’s grip and looked up at her father. “I can’t seem to find him dad, the baby’s father” her mom grabbed her at her shoulders and made Viola face her. “It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t want to be in the child life, we are a family and we’re here for you all the way”. Viola nodded her head in agreement. Her parents were fine with it but she had to get through her sisters first. As soon as the sobbing was all done she made her way to her room, only to find her sisters there. She knew where this was going and she had to face them sooner rather than later. “I can explain” she said to them both. The look on Amber's face revealed that she clearly was not interested in what her sister had to say. Scarlet on the other hand had her hands crossed over her shoulder. “Then explain to us, we’re waiting sis” that was Amber clearly speaking her mind and making sure that every bit of sarcasm was heard in her tone. “I don’t know it just happened, okay!” she yelled at her sisters and raised her hand in the air. “Look judge me if you want to but it is what it is” That’s was it, the honest truth. Exactly like it happened, just a one night stand that had serious consequences. “I can’t believe it! We kept to our part and our sister who let I remind you, initiated the Pact and here she is falling in love” The fact that her sister accused her of falling in love with John Callaghan, infuriated her. She waked up to her sister to give her a bit of her own medicine when, when their mother walked in and yelled: “Stop it! Amber and Scarlet could you please leave your sister and myself” “But mother” Scarlet tried to protest but the death stare that their mother flung them was one not to be trampled on. The Two sisters left the room but not before eyeing Viola that this was not over yet. As soon as the door was looked behind them, Viola’s mother approached her and hugged her. “It’s okay my girl, it’ll all be okay” this time even her mother reassuring words couldn’t make her feel any better. “It’s not mom, I still can’t find john anywhere, I didn’t even know where his from. The worst of all is that my sisters are not talking to me because of that stupid—“Viola was cut of her mother. ‘The Pact that you girl made with each other?” Viola was shocked that her mother had known about the Pact that was made six years prier. “Look I know I’m away a lot but I’m still your mother and let me tell you this, nothing goes on in this house, this town or with my daughters and I don’t know about it. Listen here darling I heard you guys making the Pact that night at the party and I must admit that it was funny, you girl were young and I knew that when you grow up you’ll fall in love and this Pact will mean nothing at all. Leave your sisters to me I’ll deal with them” Before her mother could leave the room she kissed Viola one more time, leaving her alone in her room feeling a little bit better than she did before. The last month for Viola has been hectic and to make matters worse her sisters are still not on board with her pregnancy. As she looked at herself in the mirror she wasn’t happy with what she was looking at. This dress was the third outfit that she had tried and this one at least fitted her but there was one problem, her stomach was beginning to show and she ant happy with it at all. Today her father was cutting the ribbon at a hospital that he donated all the way down in Texas and she wasn’t happy about it. She didn’t feel like leaving the city and make her way to a dry state where everything was probably boring. Maybe I could play the pregnancy card. Ashe thought to herself but hat would obviously not work because she used that card twice to get out of similar situations over the past month. There was a knock on her door and her mother walked in on her. “We’re waiting for you dear— what’s the matter?” “I can’t find anything that will conceal my bump” she said in an angry manner. Her mother locked the door behind her and walked all the way to her and help both Viola’s hands in hers. “You should stop hiding it dear, embrace that you are about to be a mother. When I had you my mother told me the same things to and as my eldest daughter having her first child, I’m telling you the same thing. Just embrace it”. The soothing word from her mother made Viola feel at ease. She really didn’t know what would have happened to her if she didn’t have a mother like her. Viola removed her jacket and her dress revealed her bump, she was ready to flaunt her baby even if the father was not around. ** The Texas sun was burning at its brightest, at only twelve in the afternoon the sun was hot enough to make a sane man see things that he couldn’t explain. Tate was on his land fixing us the fence, he wasn’t allowed to let those coyotes get his cattle again, he’d lost two of his cattle in the last week already and he wasn’t about to lose more. As soon as the fence was done Tate climbed onto his horse and road away, as he greeted his workers on his way to the barn to tend to the rest of his horses he couldn’t help but think about a particular someone. Viola had been on his mind for the past four months now and it was starting to get to him. These days he was hallucinating, seeing Viola at every corner of his home, playing the dutiful wife and him being the perfect husband. Out of nowhere his horse began to panic and just like that he was flung onto the floor while his horse fled. His ranch men nearby saw this and ran to help him but Tate was down on the ground as their sound of their voices began to disappear. After what seemed like a long sleep Tate woke up, only to find that he was on his bed. He tried to get up and his back hurt causing him to yell for help. Joe and Bill ran inside his room and carefully placed his back onto the bed. “What are you guys doing here?” he asked them, clearly still in pain. “Wow is that how you speak to your friends?” Bill joked a bit and Tate laughed but he soon regretted it because his back hurt and not just that his leg began to throb. “Relax Tate, you had a bad fall” that was Joe speaking. “What happened to me? One minuet I was on Chester, my horse and the next I’m here” He asked both men he looked at each other and then back at him. “Well your prized horse decided to act out, not that it was his fault apparently one of your ranch men found a Western diamondback rattlesnake which your horse had stomped on” That was a relief to hear, he didn’t want anything happening to his prized horse, and he loved that horse. His thought was interrupted by on other than Joe. “You know for someone who pays attention to a lot of things you’ve began to lose your focus and I wonder why?” “Why are you asking me that Joe?” “I don’t know. Maybe it’s because all this concentration crap started as soon as we left New York City— oh maybe when we were looking for you at the club only to find out that you left with a particular lady and you left us at the club without a way to get back home” Tate knew that Joe and Bill were still upset about that night but he’s been buying them free drinks to make up for what happened four months ago. Tate rolled his eyes because he knew this was another attempt from them to get him to buy them round of beers at the local pub. “Look guys I’m in pain can you two just let me sleep, or better yet get me some pain killers” “No we need to get you to the hospital, you look pretty beat up” that was Bill speaking, sounding really concerned about Tate’s health. “I would love to but you know what happened and some of the roads are still closed” Tate mentioned due to the heavy rains that has been affecting them some of the roads have been closed down due to trees falling over and even worse animals and road houses being washed away by the rain. The worst part of it all was that he couldn’t get to the hospital and the nearest one where the roads were not blocked was only going to be officially opened tomorrow after the cutting of the ribbon. Until that hospital was opened tomorrow Tate was screwed and he only had himself to blame.
