Shattered joy

***********(Laura's pov) I strolled through the garden, enjoying the warm sun on my skin and the gentle chatter of my favorite maid, Elena, by my side. It was moments like these that I cherished, feeling carefree and happy. Xander was wonderful, making me feel like a true queen. Elena and I had become close friends over the past few weeks. She was loving and carefree towards me, and I appreciated her companionship. One fateful morning, Elena and I decided to have tea in the garden. Xander had insisted that I go with the guards, but I had refused, begging him to let me have some private time with Elena. As we sipped our tea, I suddenly started to feel dizzy. I tried to brush it off as mere fatigue, but the sensation grew stronger. That's when I realized I had been drugged. The next thing I saw was Elena smirking evilly, and then everything went black. I woke up with a migraine headache, my mind foggy and disoriented. As my vision cleared, I realized I was blindfolded and tied up to a chair in a dark room. Panic set in as I struggled to free myself, but the restraints were too tight. Hours passed, and I heard nothing but the sound of my own ragged breathing. Then, I heard a familiar voice whispering in my ear. The light in the room flickered on, and I saw the elders standing before me, grinning wickedly. Elena stood beside them, a smirk still plastered on her face. I felt a surge of betrayal and anger. How could she do this to me? I thought we were friends. "Good job, my precious daughter," Elder Thompson said, his voice dripping with malice as he faced Elena. I realized then that Elena was his child, and she had disguised herself as a maid to manipulate me. "Dad, if I hadn't come up with the plan to disguise myself as a maid and gain her trust, we wouldn't have been able to get to her. You have to admit, it was a brilliant strategy! I'm still fuming, though - that alpha was supposed to be mine!" Elena exclaimed, clenching her fist in anger. The elders' voices echoed, their malicious laughter sending shivers down my spine. Elena, you have really done a great job, Thompson has really raised a great daughter, the elder Rachel said as she patted Elena's back, smiling at her. "We've cast a spell around this place," one of them sneered. "Alexander won't be able to smell you, won't be able to find you. You're ours now." I felt a surge of fear, but I refused to give up. I thought of Xander, of our love, and I knew I had to protect him. I prayed that he wouldn't find me, that he wouldn't get dragged into this mess. I cried out loudly, spitting at the elders in defiance. One of them slapped me hard across the face, and I felt a wave of pain wash over me. "Begin the ritual," one of the elders commanded, their voices dripping with malevolence. I was tied up to a platform, and the elders unleashed their powers on me. I yelled out in pain, feeling my essence leave my body. I was consumed by fear and despair, knowing I was about to lose everything. Just as all hope seemed lost, I heard a loud growl. Xander had found me. He burst into the room, his eyes blazing with fury as he battled the elders. I watched in horror as he fought to save me, his movements swift and deadly. Despite being outnumbered, Xander managed to kill the elders, but he was gravely injured. He stumbled towards me, his eyes filled with tears as he untied me from the platform. But it was too late. My essence had already left my body, and I was feeling weak and helpless. I fell to the ground, my vision blurring as Xander knelt beside me. He cradled me in his arms, his voice shaking with emotion. "Please don't do this to me," he begged, his eyes filled with tears. "Please don't leave me." I managed to whisper my final words to him, my voice barely audible. "I love you, Xander." As I spoke, I felt my soul deteriorating, my body perishing. Everything went black, and I knew no more. Xander's cries echoed through the room, his heart shattered into a million pieces. He held my lifeless body in his arms, his tears falling onto my face as he mourned the loss of his beloved mate. The room was silent, except for Xander's anguished cries. The elders lay dead around us, their evil plans foiled, but at what cost? As Xander rocked me back and forth, he knew that his life would never be the same. He had lost his mate, his love, and his everything. The memory of my smile, my laughter, and my love haunted him, leaving him a hollow shell of his former self.
